St. Charles Health System's Operating Room is seeking an Operating Room Assistant to maintain cleanliness and support operations in the OR environment. In this relief position with a variable schedule, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe operating room environment, preparing and moving equipment and supplies, assisting with patient transport, and supporting the perioperative care team.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a clean environment in operating rooms, offices, bathrooms, common areas, pre-op, and PACU
- Ensure all beds, tables, positioners, and supplies are available and properly maintained
- Provide support to OR staff with cleaning and equipment management
- Transport patients and items throughout the hospital as needed
- Complete unit-specific and annual competency-based learning modules and competencies on time
- Maintain a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests
- Conduct all activities with professionalism and confidentiality
- Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures
- Deliver customer service in a manner that is timely, efficient, and accurate
- Perform additional duties of similar complexity as assigned
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS/CPR) certification required by date of hire
- Surgical Cleaning Technician Certification required within 1 year of hire
- Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required

- Some institutional housekeeping experience
Physical Requirements
This position requires Patient Care Level 3 physical demands:
- Continually (75% or more): Standing, walking, keyboard operation, clear and audible speaking voice, ability to hear normal speech
- Frequently (50%): Sitting, lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling 1-25 pounds
- Occasionally (25%): Bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing ladder/step-stool, reaching overhead, lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling 25-50 pounds, grasping/squeezing, ability to hear whispered speech
- Rarely (10%): Climbing stairs, exposure to wet/slippery areas, chemical solutions
- Never (0%): Climbing ladder/step-stool, operation of motor vehicle
Exposure to blood-borne pathogens is a risk factor for this position.
Schedule and Compensation
- Relief, variable schedule with variable shift times and days
- Pay range: $21.53 - $27.56 per hour
- Relief differential: 15%
- Evening shift differential: $2.50 per hour
- Night shift differential: $5.50 per hour
- Weekend differential: $2.00 per hour
- Non-exempt position
