Operating Room Assistant - Operating Room * Nights (7p-7:30a) - 36hrs/wk

The Operating Room Assistant supports the surgical team in the operating room during night shifts (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM). This role is essential to maintaining efficient patient flow and a sterile surgical environment. You will work primarily Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday nights on a 36-hour per week schedule.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients to and from the operating room and assist with positioning and basic patient care needs
• Perform room cleaning and turnover between cases, moving into the room prior to patient exit
• Clean surgical equipment not handled by environmental services, including anesthesia machines and monitors
• Stock and restock supplies and equipment as assigned by the department
• Perform departmental transportation needs, including picking up and returning equipment, instruments, and specimens
• Maintain equipment and environment standards by checking and logging humidity levels, temperatures, solution warmers, and refrigerator temperatures
• Operate autoclaves and cold sterilization units, and perform biological testing on autoclaves and steris testing per policy
• Demonstrate aseptic technique and open sterile supplies for procedures
• Transport specimens to pathology using universal precautions
• Communicate professionally with patients, families, healthcare team members, and other departments while maintaining confidentiality
• Respond flexibly to department and hospital needs and demonstrate initiative in time management
• Participate in continuing education and inservice programs to maintain competency
• Maintain knowledge of required safety policies, procedures, and general hospital safety regulations
• Maintain documentation of participation in all required annual safety education
• Work on-call status for weekends on a rotating basis

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Knowledge of sterile technique
• Functional knowledge of surgery case setups
• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Ability to multitask and plan for the needs of multiple rooms
• Physical and emotional capacity to meet the demands of the position
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Self-directed approach with motivation and responsibility for actions

Schedule

• Nights: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• 36 hours per week
• Primary schedule: Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday nights (after training)
• On-call: Rotating weekend on-call status required
• No regular weekend shifts
