Operating Room Assistant Clearview Full Time Days

Ochsner Health is seeking an Operating Room Assistant to provide technical support services and assist with the delivery of patient care as a member of the surgical team. In this full-time, day-shift position at Clearview, you will function in a fast-paced operating room environment, supporting surgical procedures, transporting patients, and assisting with patient care and room turnover.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support services in the operating room
• Assist with the delivery of patient care as a member of the surgical team
• Transport patients throughout the facility
• Run errands and relay messages
• Assist with patient care duties and room turnover
• Maintain a clean, safe environment in patient care and support surgical areas
• Perform indirect and direct patient care duties as assigned
• Maintain required clinical knowledge, technical skills, training, and credentials
• Adapt to rapid day-to-day changes in the department
• Adapt behavior and communication to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy and appropriate introduction methods
• Remain knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements applicable to the assigned area
• Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards
• Report any known or suspected unethical or questionable behaviors, patient or employee safety concerns, or privacy violations

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience functioning calmly in pressure situations
• Experience working with little supervision
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
• Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with ability to present information clearly and professionally
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to work with little supervision
• Ability to use good judgment and handle difficult situations
• Good organizational and time management skills
• Ability to function calmly in pressure situations
• Ability to move throughout the department and facility

Preferred Qualifications

• Six months of patient care experience
• Operating room experience

Physical Demands

This position involves very heavy work, requiring exertion in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid, and tissue. The position involves working in a patient care area with direct patient contact and potential occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous medications or hazardous waste.
