The opportunity

Job Description

This position is a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) role in a long-term care facility providing resident-centered care and daily living assistance to seniors. You will work as a member of the nursing team under the supervision of a registered nurse, delivering age-appropriate care based on individual resident care plans.

Clinical Setting

This role is located at GSS IA West Union Center in West Union, Iowa, a not-for-profit organization with over 100 years of experience providing housing and services to seniors.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct resident care including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing and undressing
  • Obtain and record vital signs
  • Assist residents with transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct transfer techniques and equipment
  • Provide range of motion and passive exercises
  • Assist with meals and snacks, provide water and supplements, and create a positive dining experience
  • Provide psychosocial support and personal care to assigned residents
  • Aid providers and nursing staff with procedures as needed
  • Document resident interactions, outcomes related to care, behavior, activity, and dietary information
  • Communicate residents' changing conditions and care-related concerns to the charge nurse
  • Collect non-invasive body fluid specimens
  • Provide housekeeping and laundry services to maintain clean living areas
  • Assist with and document wellness and recreational programs, encouraging resident participation
  • Follow infection prevention and control policies and proper Personal Protective Equipment use
  • Participate in departmental or organizational committees and task forces as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing, or state certified CNA within four months of hire date by being enrolled in a training program or in the process of obtaining certification through endorsement. CNA training and certification are provided by the facility.
  • Satisfactory completion of yearly department-specific competency testing
  • Maintenance of all department-specific required certifications
  • Minimum of 12 hours continuing education annually
  • When applicable for your state, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry
  • Depending on facility and required responsibilities, this role may classify as a Sanford Category II Driver, requiring a motor vehicle report, proof of valid driver's license, and medical qualification to perform essential driving functions per Sanford Driving Policy
  • Colorado positions: Depending on facility, Qualified Medication Administration Person (QMAP) certification with the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment may be required
