Mount Sinai Health System is seeking a Nurse Practitioner for the Pulmonology and Respiratory Institute at Mount Sinai Union Square. This is a full-time, day-shift position for an independent practitioner who will diagnose, treat, and prescribe for patients within pulmonology and respiratory specialty practice. As a Nurse Practitioner in New York State, you will work autonomously; medical orders, progress notes, and treatment plans do not require physician countersignature.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Assess patient and family health status through comprehensive health history and physical examination
  • Initiate and order therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations, and laboratory examinations
  • Prescribe medication regimens and interpret findings according to accepted standards of care and practice guidelines
  • Educate and counsel patients in health promotion, disease prevention, and management of acute and chronic illnesses
  • Document findings and plan of care in patient medical records
  • Consult with physicians according to established standards, policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Initiate referrals to specialty services and foster continuity of care
  • Participate in team meetings and conferences to support interdisciplinary care delivery
  • Maintain patient and employee confidentiality
  • Develop individualized plans of care based on patient diagnoses and needs
  • Record, report, and interpret patient responses to the plan of care
  • Perform patient record reviews with the collaborating physician at least every three months if utilizing a collaborative practice agreement
  • Complete Focused Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (FPPE) or Ongoing Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (OPPE) as required by Medical Staff
  • Practice as a member of the allied health staff according to Medical Staff rules and hospital bylaws

Required Qualifications

  • Active New York State RN license with current registration
  • Master's degree program designed to prepare a Nurse Practitioner to diagnose, treat, and prescribe within specialty area of practice, OR successful completion of an approved supplemental education program (post-Master's NP certificate)
  • Certification by the New York State Department of Education as a Nurse Practitioner with current registration
  • Graduate of New York State registered Nurse Practitioner Program or equivalent, OR certified as a Nurse Practitioner by a national association via examination
  • Completion of pharmacy component of not less than required semester hours or equivalent
  • Instruction in New York State and Federal Laws relating to prescriptions and recordkeeping (3-hour course)
  • Collaborative Practice Agreement with a physician and designated protocols if less than 3,600 hours experience as a practicing Nurse Practitioner, OR Collaborative Relationship with a physician based on employment in clinical practice in the NP role at Mount Sinai Hospital if documented work history as a Nurse Practitioner with greater than 3,600 practice hours
  • Credentialing through the Credentialing Committee of the Medical Board with approved Delineation of Privileges
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • At least two years of nursing experience in area of specialty practice applied for
  • National Board Certification in Advanced Practice Nursing (required for all NPs hired effective June 1, 2019; required for NPs who bill for professional services regardless of hire date; may be deferred up to one year if approved by Chief Nursing Officer or designee)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification as required by specialty

Compensation

  • Hourly rate: $72.99
  • Actual salaries depend on experience, education, and operational need
  • Salary range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits

Employment

  • Collective bargaining unit: SEIU 1199-MSBI-NP
  • All NPs regardless of status will be placed on FPPE initially
