NaphCare is hiring Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs) to provide healthcare services at the Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution in Torrington, WY. In this unique correctional healthcare setting, you will work alongside correctional officers and medical professionals to assess, diagnose, and treat incarcerated individuals with a range of medical conditions and chronic illnesses. Full-time and part-time positions are available.

Clinical Setting

You will work within a controlled correctional environment where security is a top priority. The patient population includes incarcerated individuals with complex medical needs, diverse backgrounds, and varying mental health and substance abuse issues.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct physical examinations, develop treatment plans, and monitor patients
  • Manage acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes
  • Administer medications and provide patient instructions
  • Monitor and document patient health including vital signs and medical histories
  • Provide direct patient care, triage, assess patient needs, develop care plans, and coordinate services
  • Respond to medical emergencies, provide first aid, and ensure timely transport to appropriate healthcare facilities
  • Educate patients on preventative care, healthy lifestyle choices, and substance abuse prevention
  • Understand and adhere to correctional facility security protocols while working closely with correctional officers and other healthcare professionals
  • Maintain accurate medical records, document treatment plans, and report relevant information
  • Conduct rounds and evaluate patients returning from off-site treatment
  • Admit and discharge patients from the facility

Required Qualifications

  • Master's or Doctorate degree in advanced nursing
  • Current unrestricted license as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in Wyoming
  • Current DEA registration
  • Appropriate collaborative agreement with the on-site Physician
  • Active BLS/CPR Certification (AHA preferred)
  • Board certification recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties
  • Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, and applicable healthcare laws and regulations
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to a Code of Conduct and all facility correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
  • Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • Ability to lift and move patients up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, and walk significant distances
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as CPR while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift
