Nurse Practitioner-Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit- Mount Sinai Hospital - Full Time - Night

Mount Sinai Hospital seeks a Nurse Practitioner for the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit on a full-time night shift basis. As an NP in this role, you will provide independent advanced practice nursing care to critically ill pediatric cardiac patients and their families. You will diagnose, treat, and prescribe within your specialty area of practice, working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary care team to deliver comprehensive, evidence-based care.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Assess the health status of patients and families through comprehensive health history and physical examination
• Initiate and order therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations, and laboratory examinations
• Prescribe medication regimens and interpret findings according to accepted standards of care and practice guidelines
• Develop individualized plans of care based on diagnoses and patient needs
• Educate and counsel patients and families in health promotion, disease prevention, and management of acute and chronic illnesses
• Document findings and plans of care in the patient's medical record
• Consult with physicians according to established standards, policies, procedures, and protocols
• Initiate referrals to specialty services and foster continuity of care
• Participate in team meetings and conferences to support an interdisciplinary approach to care delivery
• Record, report, and interpret patient responses to the plan of care
• Perform patient record reviews with the collaborating physician at least every three months if utilizing a collaborative practice agreement
• Complete Focused Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (FPPE) or Ongoing Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (OPPE) as required by Medical Staff
• Maintain patient and employee confidentiality

Required Qualifications

• Active New York State RN license with current registration
• Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the New York State Department of Education with current registration
• Master's degree from a New York State registered Nurse Practitioner program or equivalent, or successful completion of an approved supplemental education program (post-master's NP certificate)
• Completion of a pharmacy component of not less than required semester hours
• Instruction in New York State and Federal laws relating to prescriptions and recordkeeping (3-hour course)
• Previous progressive experience relevant to pediatric cardiac intensive care nursing
• National Board Certification in Advanced Practice Nursing (required for all NPs hired effective June 1, 2019, or for NPs who bill for professional services; may be deferred up to 1 year if approved by Chief Nursing Officer)
• Collaborative Practice Agreement with a physician and designated protocols if you have less than 3,600 hours of experience as a practicing Nurse Practitioner, OR a Collaborative Relationship with a physician based on employment in the NP role at Mount Sinai Hospital if you have documented work history as a Nurse Practitioner with greater than 3,600 practice hours
• Credentialing through the Credentialing Committee of the Medical Board with approved Delineation of Privileges
• Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
• Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS) certification
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification

Schedule and Compensation

• Full-time position
• Night shift
• Hourly rate: $84.59
• Actual salary depends on experience, education, and operational need
• Salary does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits
• Position is part of the NYSNA-MSH collective bargaining unit (G18 - Pediatrics Nursing - ISM, Icahn School of Medicine)
