Nurse Practitioner-Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit- Mount Sinai Hospital - Full Time - Night

Mount Sinai Hospital is seeking a Nurse Practitioner for the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit on a full-time night shift basis. In this role, you will provide advanced clinical care to pediatric cardiac patients in a critical care setting, working as an independent practitioner within a collaborative practice framework.

As a Nurse Practitioner in this specialty, you will assess patient health status through comprehensive history and physical examination, order diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, prescribe medication regimens, and manage patient care plans according to established standards and practice guidelines. You will educate patients and families on health promotion, disease prevention, and management of acute and chronic illnesses. Medical orders, progress notes, and treatment plans do not require physician countersignature under New York State law.

Responsibilities

• Assess the health status of patients and families through comprehensive health history and physical examination
• Initiate and order therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations, and laboratory examinations
• Prescribe medication regimens and interpret findings
• Alter the plan of care according to accepted standards of care and practice guidelines
• Educate and counsel patients and families in health promotion, disease prevention, and management of acute and chronic illnesses
• Document findings and plan of care in the patient's medical record
• Consult with physicians according to established standards, policies, procedures, and protocols
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to pediatric patients
• Initiate referrals to specialty services and foster continuity of care
• Participate in team meetings and conferences to enhance interdisciplinary care delivery
• Maintain patient and employee confidentiality
• Develop individualized plans of care based on diagnoses and patient needs
• Record, report, and interpret patient responses to the plan of care
• Perform patient record reviews with the collaborating physician at least every three months if utilizing a collaborative practice agreement
• Complete Focused Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (FPPE) or Ongoing Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (OPPE) as required by Medical Staff
• Practice as a member of the allied health staff according to Medical Staff rules and Hospital bylaws
• Support the mission, vision, philosophy, and goals of the Department of Nursing and Mount Sinai Health System
• Demonstrate accountability for your own nursing practice
• Consider ethical issues of professional nursing practice and adhere to the code of ethics
• Serve as a resource person to nurses and other health team members
• Participate in peer review
• Incorporate research findings into clinical practice
• Participate in approved nursing and medical research studies
• Keep knowledge current through self-directed learning, literature review, and attendance at educational programs
• Participate in defining, maintaining, and interpreting standards of nursing practice
• Contribute to maintaining a positive image of advanced practice nursing in the medical center and community
• Participate in departmental and interdisciplinary committees that influence policies affecting nursing practice and patient care
• Treat co-workers, patients, and families with dignity and respect

Required Qualifications

• Active New York State RN license with current registration
• Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the New York State Department of Education with current registration
• Master's degree from a New York State registered Nurse Practitioner program or equivalent, or successful completion of an approved supplemental education program (post-master's NP certificate)
• Completion of a pharmacy component of not less than required semester hours
• Instruction in New York State and Federal laws relating to prescriptions and recordkeeping (3-hour course)
• Collaborative Practice Agreement with a physician and designated protocols if you have less than 3,600 hours of experience as a practicing Nurse Practitioner, OR Collaborative Relationship with a physician based on employment in the NP role at Mount Sinai Hospital if you have documented work history as a Nurse Practitioner with greater than 3,600 practice hours
• National Board Certification in Advanced Practice Nursing (required for all NPs hired effective June 1, 2019, or for NPs who bill for professional services; may be deferred up to 1 year if approved by Chief Nursing Officer or designee)
• Credentialing through the Credentialing Committee of the Medical Board with approved Delineation of Privileges
• Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
• Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS) certification
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
• Previous progressive experience relevant to pediatric cardiac intensive care practice

Compensation

• Hourly rate: $84.59
• Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need
• Salary range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits
• Position is part of NYSNA-MSH collective bargaining unit (G18 - Pediatrics Nursing - ISM, Icahn School of Medicine)
