The opportunity

Job Description

Johnson & Wales University seeks a Nurse Practitioner to provide routine and emergency medical care to students on the Providence, Rhode Island campus. This part-time, per diem position is based in the university's health and counseling services and operates on an academic year schedule.

Clinical Setting

You will work within a campus-based health center serving the student population, collaborating with medical providers and staff nurses to deliver high-quality patient care while maintaining efficient office workflow.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, diagnose, and treat students for illnesses and injuries using clinical knowledge and experience
  • Refer cases for more advanced treatment outside the university when necessary
  • Perform health assessments and gynecological exams
  • Conduct medical tests and document patient data
  • Order and review laboratory, x-ray, and other diagnostic testing
  • Follow up with patients to discuss diagnostic results
  • Dispense and prescribe medications according to medical standards and patient needs
  • Process and review medical records
  • Document clinical visits in the university's electronic medical record system in accordance with department of health regulations and university policies
  • Collaborate with medical providers and staff nurses to provide high-quality patient care and maintain office workflow
  • Assist with campuswide health initiatives and educational programs, including smoking cessation, residential health education programming, and immunization and communicable disease control
  • Serve on health- and wellness-focused university committees
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in nursing or a related field of study
  • Moderate amount of experience in nursing or other related experience
  • Registered Nurse Practitioner (R.N.P.) license with prescriptive privileges in Rhode Island
  • Must live or relocate to live within daily commuting distance of the Providence campus upon hire

Schedule

This is a part-time, per diem position operating on an academic year schedule.
