Mount Sinai Hospital is seeking a Nurse Practitioner for the Outpatient Oncology, GI and Neuroendocrine Tumor (NET) Ambulatory Service. This full-time position operates on a day shift schedule of four 10-hour days per week. As a Nurse Practitioner in New York State, you will function as an independent practitioner within your specialty area, diagnosing, treating, and prescribing for patients without requiring physician countersignature of medical orders, progress notes, or treatment plans.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Assess patient and family health status through comprehensive health history and physical examination
- Initiate and order therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations, and laboratory examinations
- Prescribe medication regimens and interpret findings according to accepted standards of care and practice guidelines
- Educate and counsel patients in health promotion, disease prevention, and management of acute and chronic illnesses
- Document findings and plan of care in patient medical records
- Consult with physicians according to established standards, policies, procedures, and protocols
- Develop individualized plans of care based on diagnoses and patient needs
- Record, report, and interpret patient responses to the plan of care
- Initiate referrals to specialty services and foster continuity of care
- Participate in team meetings and conferences to support an interdisciplinary approach to care delivery
- Maintain patient and employee confidentiality in information management
- Perform patient record reviews with the collaborating physician at least every three months if utilizing a collaborative practice agreement
- Complete Focused Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (FPPE) or Ongoing Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (OPPE) as required by Medical Staff for continued credentialing
- Practice as a member of the allied health staff according to Medical Staff rules and Hospital Staff bylaws

Required Qualifications
- Active New York State RN license with current registration
- Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the New York State Department of Education with current registration
- Graduate of a New York State registered Nurse Practitioner Program or equivalent, OR certification as a Nurse Practitioner by a national association via examination
- Completion of a pharmacy component of not less than required semester hours
- Instruction in New York State and Federal Laws relating to prescriptions and recordkeeping (3-hour course)
- Master's degree program designed to prepare an NP to diagnose, treat, and prescribe within their specialty area of practice, OR successful completion of an approved supplemental education program (post-master's NP certificate)
- Collaborative Practice Agreement with a physician and designated protocols if less than 3,600 hours of experience as a practicing Nurse Practitioner, OR Collaborative Relationship with a physician based on employment in the NP role at Mount Sinai Hospital if documented work history as an NP with greater than 3,600 practice hours
- Previous progressive experience relevant to outpatient oncology, GI, and neuroendocrine tumor clinical practice
- National Board Certification in Advanced Practice Nursing (required for all NPs hired effective June 1, 2019, or for NPs who bill for professional services; may be deferred up to 1 year if approved by Chief Nursing Officer or designee)
- Credentialing through the Credentialing Committee of the Medical Board with approved Delineation of Privileges
- Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification as required by specialty
- Ability to perform history taking and physical assessment techniques
- Ability to interpret and apply principles of nursing research utilization
- Ability to manage and coordinate a patient caseload
- Physical stamina and manual dexterity to perform a variety of tasks and skills in the area of assignment
- Excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, creative problem solving, critical thinking, and leadership abilities
