We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide specialized wound care for obstetric and gynecologic patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This role operates within a fast-paced environment and requires collaboration with an interdisciplinary healthcare team. The advanced practice provider will work under established clinical protocols and a defined scope of practice, assuming independent and interdependent responsibilities in patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment initiation, and procedures. You will also contribute to education, research, consultation, and evaluation of clinical practice.
Clinical Setting
This position serves OB/GYN patients requiring wound care management across both inpatient hospital and outpatient clinic settings.
Responsibilities
Nurse Practitioner:
- Utilize advanced practice knowledge and skills to systematically collect and evaluate comprehensive health assessment data and manage a caseload of patients
- Obtain comprehensive health, developmental, and family histories on patients and document appropriately in medical records
- Consistently demonstrate effective communication skills and work to eliminate communication barriers
- Serve as an educational resource for patients, families, community members, and other healthcare professionals
- Apply current knowledge relevant to clinical practice and demonstrate professional, managerial, and technical competency
- Demonstrate NP role behaviors consistent with advanced nursing practice development
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare team members to provide comprehensive patient care
- Identify and document patient and family learning needs, readiness to learn, and level of understanding, incorporating family culture and belief systems
- Participate in departmental quality improvement programs annually
Physician Assistant:
- Provide medical services within the scope of PA education, training, and physician delegation
- Obtain comprehensive health, developmental, and family histories on patients and document appropriately in medical records
- Differentiate between normal and abnormal findings and document in medical records
- Prescribe or administer medications as delegated by the supervising physician and document in medical records
- Administer appropriate vaccines as observed by physicians and documented in medical records
- Order diagnostic tests consistent with differential diagnoses derived from gathered data
- Foster collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to improve healthcare
- Establish patient and family relationships characterized by mutual respect, empathy, and collaboration
Required Qualifications
Nurse Practitioner:
- Master's degree in nursing
- Active RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing or Nursing Licensure Compact
- Current certification as FNP, NNP, PNP-BC, WHNP-BC, CPNP-AC, or AG-ACNP from the Texas Board of Nursing
- Wound care certification
Physician Assistant:
- Bachelor's degree
- PA-Cert Physician Assistant certification from the Texas Medical Board
- Wound care certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Wound care experience (for both NP and PA)
Additional Requirements
All successful candidates will be required to undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
