Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant-Stem Cell Outpatient, Full-time, Days

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Stem Cell Transplant Outpatient Department. This is a full-time, primarily outpatient position working with patients undergoing stem cell transplantation and related treatments.

Clinical Setting

You will work in our outpatient stem cell transplant department, providing direct clinical care to an assigned patient population. You will collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals, and may mentor graduate students in advanced practice and patient care.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive health assessments including patient histories and physical examinations
• Provide direct clinical care to patients in the stem cell transplant program
• Prescribe and order medications, therapies, laboratory tests, imaging, and procedures according to clinical privileges
• Evaluate patients to determine their need for further healthcare services
• Provide comprehensive teaching to patients and families regarding their care and treatment
• Document all care, education, and procedures in the medical record
• Refer patients to other disciplines as appropriate and serve as a consultant in your area of expertise
• Integrate research-based knowledge and clinical expertise into clinical decision-making
• Advocate for patients, families, coworkers, and the community
• Participate in quality improvement and research initiatives relevant to the patient population
• Serve as a preceptor and role model to students
• Participate in unit, departmental, divisional, or hospital committees and task forces as appropriate
• Maintain all required certifications and continuing education for licensure and privileging

Schedule

• Four 10-hour days per week

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree from an accredited school of nursing with current Illinois RN license, current Illinois Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license, and national APRN certification approved by the Illinois Department of Regulation APRN Board; OR Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program with current Illinois PA license
• Ability to apply for controlled substance license and DEA number
• Privileged and credentialed through the Northwestern Medicine Medical Staff Office
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Preferred Qualifications

• Hematology/oncology background
• New graduates with hematology/oncology experience are encouraged to apply

Background Check

Newly hired team members are required to complete a background check that includes criminal history. Results are evaluated on a case-by-case basis in accordance with the Illinois Health Care Worker Background Check Act and all applicable local, state, and federal laws.
