Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Sleep Clinic

We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our pediatric sleep clinic in an advanced practice role. You will provide developmentally appropriate health maintenance for well children, episodic care for ill children, and comprehensive care for children with chronic conditions. Working under an established delineation of clinical privileges, you will collaborate with other members of the healthcare team to deliver assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and procedures guided by established clinical protocols and guidelines.

Responsibilities

Nurse Practitioner:

• Use advanced practice knowledge and skills to systematically collect and evaluate health assessment data and manage patient caseloads
• Obtain comprehensive health, developmental, and family histories and document appropriately in medical records
• Assess patient physical status through physical examination and document findings
• Differentiate between normal and abnormal findings and document in medical records
• Perform or recommend age-appropriate health screening procedures
• Provide health maintenance and health promotion for children of all ages
• Perform and evaluate diagnostic procedures and laboratory tests
• Analyze multiple sources of data and formulate differential diagnoses in collaboration with physicians
• Follow established delegation protocols to manage specific patient problems
• Formulate plans of care in collaboration with other healthcare professionals
• Evaluate patient responses to interventions and modify the plan of care as needed
• Present and document data, impressions, and plans of care accurately
• Demonstrate effective communication skills and work to eliminate communication barriers
• Collaborate effectively with other healthcare disciplines to provide comprehensive care
• Use effective interviewing skills to elicit information from patients and families
• Request consultation and initiate referrals for specialized care as appropriate
• Serve as an educational resource for patients, families, community, and other healthcare professionals
• Apply new knowledge relevant to pediatric nursing to clinical practice
• Maintain current professional, managerial, and technical knowledge through professional literature, staff development, and continuing education
• Participate in department and hospital committees that promote quality nursing care
• Participate in departmental quality improvement programs

Physician Assistant:

• Provide medical services within the education, training, and scope of practice delegated by the supervising physician
• Obtain comprehensive health, developmental, and family histories and document appropriately in medical records
• Differentiate between normal and abnormal findings and document in medical records
• Prescribe or administer medications as delegated by the supervising physician
• Administer appropriate vaccines as observed by physicians and documented in medical records
• Order diagnostic tests consistent with differential diagnoses
• Foster collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to improve healthcare
• Establish relationships with patients and families characterized by mutual respect, empathy, and collaboration

Required Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner:

• Master's degree in nursing
• RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing or Nursing Licensure Compact
• Current certification as FNP, NNP, PNP-BC, WHNP-BC, CPNP-AC, or AG-ACNP from the Texas Board of Nursing

Physician Assistant:

• Bachelor's degree
• PA-Cert (Physician Assistant certification) from the Texas Medical Board

Preferred Qualifications

• Pediatric experience (for both Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant)

Additional Requirements

All successful candidates will be required to undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
