Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, Inpatient Urology

Cincinnati Children's is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for an inpatient urology role. You will primarily work with the inpatient urology team and consultation service, with additional gynecology consultation coverage on select nights and weekends. This is an excellent opportunity for new graduates with inpatient surgical experience, as well as experienced APPs seeking to develop or advance subspecialty expertise in urology.

Clinical Setting

You will work in the Department of Urology with some gynecology coverage at Cincinnati Children's, a top 10 children's hospital recognized nationally for clinical excellence and research innovation. The role is based at Location C.

Responsibilities

• Perform history and physical examinations on patients presenting for care in urology and related areas
• Assess and diagnose acute and chronic illnesses
• Formulate, document, and monitor individualized treatment plans
• Order and monitor therapeutic interventions including diets, laboratory tests, radiological and diagnostic studies as indicated by clinical assessment
• Provide clinical consultation and order interdisciplinary consults as appropriate
• Prescribe medications in accordance with federal and state law, regulations, and institutional policy
• Develop measurable outcomes and goals that guide continuity of care and consistency among providers
• Prioritize, evaluate, and modify comprehensive plans of care addressing each diagnosis or issue
• Involve patients, families, and caregivers in care planning when possible
• Consider risks, benefits, costs, clinical effectiveness, and current evidence when formulating interventions and treatments
• Maintain documentation and update outcomes, goals, and plans of care
• Participate in quality improvement activities and research to enhance care delivery and patient outcomes
• Engage in lifelong learning and professional development to improve clinical skills and competence
• Serve as a preceptor, role model, or mentor to colleagues
• Integrate ethical considerations and research findings into practice
• Participate in committees or professional organizations and advocate for pediatric patients and families
• Maintain competency in clinical skills and procedures
• Promote patient and family-centered care and self-management
• Employ diverse and complex strategies to promote health and safe environments
• Provide leadership in care management to achieve optimal, cost-effective care
• Communicate and coordinate with healthcare team members for integrated care delivery
• Delegate appropriate monitoring, assessment, and interventions according to patient needs and caregiver scope of practice
• Make appropriate referrals and discuss recommendations with patients, families, and caregivers
• Provide patients and families with diagnostic and laboratory results and information about benefits, limitations, and adverse effects of proposed therapies
• Systematically evaluate assessment data and outcomes to revise diagnoses, outcomes, and care plans as needed
• Evaluate the accuracy of diagnoses and effectiveness of interventions in relation to expected outcomes
• Base evaluation on advanced knowledge, practice, and research

Scope of practice will not exceed the scope of the collaborating or supervising physician.

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in a related field or Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree
• Clinical license and certification in accordance with Cincinnati Children's Delineation of Privileges
• Certification as FNP, Acute Care NP, Primary Care NP, or other NP certification; or PA certification
• Licensure in Ohio and potentially multi-state licensure depending on subspecialty requirements

Preferred Qualifications

• Inpatient surgical experience
• Specialty experience such as emergency department or surgical experience
• Prior experience as an APP in a subspecialty setting

Schedule

• Full-time position (0.9 FTE)
• 12-hour shifts
• Rotating shift schedule
• Weekends required
• Holidays required
• No on-call duties
• 40 weekly hours
• Regular employee status
