Nurse Practitioner

One GI is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to provide gastroenterology patient care in collaboration with supervising and collaborating physicians. You will assess and manage patients in both clinic and inpatient settings, serving as the first point of contact for medical triage and providing continuity of care across multiple care environments.

Clinical Setting

You will work in both outpatient clinic and hospital inpatient settings, providing care to gastroenterology patients across diverse clinical scenarios.

Responsibilities

• Provide first point of contact medical triage for hospital inpatients, including new consults, follow-up visits, and weekend call coverage as negotiated
• Conduct routine and urgent follow-up visits in the office setting
• Evaluate urgent and provider-requested consults and new patient visits
• Perform clinical procedures including G-tube changes, hemorrhoid banding (after training), and large volume paracentesis (as permitted)
• Conduct daily rounds on hospitalized patients, including inpatient NP coverage and specialized patient populations such as Hepatitis C patients
• Perform physical examinations and document findings in patient records
• Order appropriate medications, laboratory tests, and diagnostic procedures
• Administer medications and injections
• Communicate patient care activities to physicians through visit notes and test result documentation
• Collaborate with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs
• Interview and advise patients regarding health and illness prevention
• Provide patient and family education regarding medications and treatment instructions
• Recommend community resources to meet patient and family needs
• Triage patient telephone calls and provide consultation
• Maintain and review patient records, charts, and pertinent information
• Participate in clinical continuous quality improvement activities
• Interpret and integrate data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures

Required Qualifications

• Active Registered Nursing license
• Degree level required by your state to obtain NP license
• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
• Board certification with prescriptive authority from a national Nurse Practitioner certification board
• Three years of professional nursing experience in a clinic or hospital setting
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of billing services
• Understanding of physician/NP/patient relationship responsibilities
• Good working knowledge of MS Office
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
• Proven ability to manage time, meet deadlines, and prioritize
• Ability to maintain standards and professionalism during periods of fluctuating workloads

Physical Requirements

This role requires continuous activity including walking, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, and reaching. You must be able to lift, push, or pull 35 pounds or more and demonstrate dexterity and flexibility in motion. You must be able to differentiate colors and successfully pass color blind screening. You will be regularly required to speak and hear, and to understand and follow written English instructions.

Work Environment

You will work in clinic and hospital environments with potential exposure to blood, tissue, and bodily fluids. The role involves exposure to Glutaraldehyde/Rapicide and occasional exposure to communicable diseases and biohazards.
