Nurse Practitioner - Oncology - Mount Sinai Chelsea - Full Time Days

Mount Sinai Chelsea is seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner specializing in Oncology to provide independent advanced practice nursing care to patients with cancer. As a Nurse Practitioner, you will diagnose, treat, and prescribe for patients within your specialty area of practice. Medical orders, progress notes, and treatment plans do not require physician countersignature.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient and family health status through comprehensive health history and physical examination
• Initiate and order therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations, and laboratory examinations
• Prescribe medication regimens and interpret findings according to accepted standards of care and practice guidelines
• Educate and counsel patients in health promotion, disease prevention, and management of acute and chronic illnesses
• Document findings and plan of care in patient medical records
• Consult with physicians according to established standards, policies, procedures, and protocols
• Initiate referrals to specialty services and foster continuity of care
• Participate in team meetings and conferences to support an interdisciplinary approach to care delivery
• Maintain patient and employee confidentiality
• Develop individualized plans of care based on diagnoses and patient needs
• Record, report, and interpret patient responses to the plan of care
• Perform patient record reviews with the collaborating physician at least every three months if utilizing a collaborative practice agreement
• Complete Focused Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (FPPE) or Ongoing Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (OPPE) as required by Medical Staff
• Practice as a member of the allied health staff according to Medical Staff rules and hospital bylaws
• Support the mission, vision, philosophy, and goals of the Department of Nursing and Mount Sinai Health System
• Demonstrate accountability for your own nursing practice
• Serve as a resource person to nurses and other health team members
• Participate in peer review and approved nursing and medical research studies
• Keep knowledge current through self-directed learning, literature review, and attendance at educational programs
• Participate in departmental and interdisciplinary committees that influence policies affecting nursing practice and patient care

Required Qualifications

• Active New York State RN license with current registration
• Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the New York State Department of Education with current registration
• Master's degree program designed to prepare an NP to diagnose, treat, and prescribe within their specialty area of practice, or successful completion of an approved supplemental education program (post-Master's NP certificate)
• At least two years of nursing experience in oncology or your area of specialty practice
• Collaborative Practice Agreement with a physician and designated protocols if you have fewer than 3,600 hours of experience as a practicing Nurse Practitioner, OR a Collaborative Relationship with a physician based on employment at Mount Sinai Hospital if you have documented work history as an NP with greater than 3,600 practice hours
• Credentialing through the Credentialing Committee of the Medical Board with approved Delineation of Privileges
• Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• National Board Certification in Advanced Practice Nursing (required for all NPs hired effective June 1, 2019, or for NPs who bill for professional services; may be deferred up to one year if approved by Chief Nursing Officer or designee)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification as required by specialty

• At least one year of Nurse Practitioner experience

• Hourly rate: $72.99
• Actual salaries depend on experience, education, and operational need
• Salary range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits
