Mount Sinai Hospital is seeking a Nurse Practitioner for the Neuro-Surgical Intensive Care Unit (NSICU) on a full-time night shift basis. As a Nurse Practitioner, you will work as an independent practitioner within your specialty area, diagnosing, treating, and prescribing for patients under your care. You will function as a key member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, providing comprehensive patient assessment, clinical decision-making, and direct patient care in a fast-paced critical care environment.
Clinical Setting
The NSICU at Mount Sinai Hospital serves critically ill patients requiring specialized neurological and neurosurgical care. You will work the night shift as part of a collaborative team of physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals.
Responsibilities
- Assess patient health status through comprehensive health history and physical examination
- Initiate and order therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations, and laboratory examinations
- Prescribe medication regimens and interpret findings according to accepted standards of care and practice guidelines
- Alter the plan of care based on patient response and clinical assessment
- Educate and counsel patients and families in health promotion, disease prevention, and management of acute and chronic illnesses
- Document findings and plan of care in the patient's medical record
- Consult with physicians according to established standards, policies, procedures, and protocols
- Initiate referrals to specialty services and foster continuity of care
- Participate in team meetings and conferences to support an interdisciplinary approach to care delivery
- Maintain patient and employee confidentiality
- Develop individualized plans of care based on diagnoses and patient needs
- Record, report, and interpret patient responses to the plan of care
- Perform patient record reviews with the collaborating physician at least every three months if utilizing a collaborative practice agreement
- Complete Focused Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (FPPE) or Ongoing Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (OPPE) as required by Medical Staff
- Practice as a member of the allied health staff according to Medical Staff rules and hospital bylaws
- Serve as a resource person to nurses and other health team members
- Participate in peer review and departmental committees
- Incorporate research findings into clinical practice
- Maintain current knowledge through self-directed learning, literature review, and educational programs
Required Qualifications
- Active New York State RN license with current registration
- Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the New York State Department of Education with current registration
- Master's degree from a New York State registered Nurse Practitioner program or equivalent, OR successful completion of an approved supplemental education program (post-master's NP certificate)
- Completion of a pharmacy component with instruction in New York State and Federal laws relating to prescriptions and recordkeeping (3-hour course)
- Collaborative Practice Agreement with a physician and designated protocols if you have fewer than 3,600 hours of experience as a practicing Nurse Practitioner, OR a Collaborative Relationship with a physician based on employment at Mount Sinai Hospital if you have documented work history as a Nurse Practitioner with greater than 3,600 practice hours
- National Board Certification in Advanced Practice Nursing (required for all NPs hired effective June 1, 2019, or for NPs who bill for professional services; may be deferred up to 1 year if approved by Chief Nursing Officer)
- Credentialing through the Credentialing Committee of the Medical Board with approved Delineation of Privileges
- Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
- Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS) certification
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Previous progressive experience relevant to critical care nursing practice
- Physical stamina and manual dexterity to perform a variety of tasks and skills in the NSICU setting

Full-time, night shift position.
Compensation
Hourly rate: $84.59. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. This rate does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
