Licenses

  • Unrestricted state medical licensure without limitations

This position involves conducting Compensation and Pension disability examinations for Veterans through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. You will review medical history documentation, perform in-person focused evaluations, and electronically document exam findings using web-based forms and the Electronic Medical Records System (EMR). Completed exams are submitted to the VA for disability award determinations. This is a non-treatment, assessment-only role—you will not provide ongoing care or prescribe medication.

Responsibilities

  • Review order requests, medical history, service records, and previous exams, including refuting prior medical opinions when applicable
  • Explain the exam process to Veterans and confirm claimed conditions
  • Complete Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQ) and Medical Opinions (MO) through the EMR during the exam
  • Provide focused evaluations on all bodily systems
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests including lab work, spirometry, and ECGs as needed
  • Electronically document all exam findings and submit completed exams within 24-48 hours
  • Follow appropriate protocol if behavioral health or medical emergencies occur
  • Collaborate with on-site and remote staff

Required Qualifications

  • Unrestricted state medical licensure without limitations to perform the full scope of authorized practice
  • Ability to perform focused evaluations on all bodily systems
  • Proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and EMR platforms
  • Ability to analyze data from VA medical records and medical literature related to assessments and outcomes
  • Skilled in professional communication, critical thinking, and informed-care decision making
  • Ability to work independently with strong time management skills and meet deadlines
  • Commitment to serving Veterans, including those with service animals
