Child*Serve* is seeking an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) to join the inpatient medical team providing comprehensive care to children and young adults up to age 30 with complex medical needs and intellectual or developmental disabilities. You will conduct patient assessments, diagnose conditions, prescribe treatments, and guide families through care plans while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team and subspecialists.
Clinical Setting
You will primarily work within the inpatient program but may occasionally support outpatient services. Child*Serve* is Iowa's leading pediatric healthcare provider with the state's only children's specialty hospital, offering complex medical care, pediatric rehabilitation, autism and behavioral health, and community-based services.
Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient and family assessments, exams, and diagnostic evaluations
- Order diagnostic tests and interpret results
- Prescribe treatments and medications
- Develop and document care plans in compliance with regulations
- Participate in patient and family meetings to review treatment options and support understanding of medical conditions
- Respond to inquiries from patients, families, staff, providers, and referral agencies
- Prepare and deliver education to patients, families, staff, and community members
- Support family engagement and collaboration with the care team
- Participate in clinical education and training for staff
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated, high-quality care
- Promote and apply evidence-based best practices
- Support quality improvement, infection prevention, and antibiotic stewardship initiatives
- Provide limited supervision to nurses as needed to support operations
- Represent the nurse practitioner role within the organization
- Ensure effective communication to support seamless transitions of care
Schedule
Part-time position with flexible scheduling options:
Option 1: Fixed Weekday Nights
- Two weekday nights per week
- Monday through Thursday
- 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM
Option 2: Weekend Nights
- Friday and Saturday or Saturday and Sunday
- 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
Call Rotation Requirements
Call rotation after hours and weekends with other members of the medical team, typically 1:3 or 1:4 rotation.
Required Qualifications
- Master of Science in Nursing or Doctorate of Nursing Practice
- ARNP specialty education and license in Iowa as either a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)
- Three years of Nurse Practitioner experience
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds, be mobile within clinical areas, and frequently bend, lift, reach, and stand
- Ability to pass a Child*Serve* physical examination at commencement of employment and thereafter as regulations require
- Ability to understand and communicate effectively and professionally in reading, writing, and speaking the English language
