We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join our Nephrology specialty clinic in Temple. As an NP in this role, you will provide direct patient care to individuals with kidney disease and related conditions, working collaboratively with supervising physicians and an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
Clinical Setting
You will work in a specialty clinic focused on nephrology, with potential responsibilities extending to inpatient, emergency, and procedural settings as needed.
Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive and problem-focused physical examinations and obtain detailed medical histories
- Order, collect, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic tests to assess patient health needs
- Prescribe medications and recommend therapeutic treatments and procedures according to approved protocols, with attention to efficacy, safety, and cost
- Develop and implement comprehensive, outcomes-based patient treatment plans based on evidence-based medicine and professional practice guidelines
- Evaluate patient responses to care and the effectiveness of treatment interventions
- Counsel patients and families regarding medical processes, illness management, medications, nutrition, and health promotion
- Provide education about drug regimens, possible side effects, and interactions with other substances including over-the-counter medications, supplements, and herbal remedies
- Maintain detailed records of patient treatment plans and outcomes
- Initiate timely consultations and referrals when problems exceed your scope of practice or expertise
- Provide consultation-level services for nephrology-related conditions
- Perform invasive procedures within your scope of practice and competency as delegated by the supervising physician
- May be required to perform patient care duties beyond regular schedule based on departmental coverage needs
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree or higher from an accredited nurse practitioner program
- Current Texas RN license or RN license with compact privilege from a state party to the Nurse Licensure Compact for RNs and LVNs
- Current Texas APRN license
- Current Texas Nurse Practitioner license
- APRN certification from an accredited board for the patient population (nephrology)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire or transfer
Required Skills and Competencies
- Knowledge of diagnosis and treatment of kidney diseases, related conditions, symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures
- Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Interpersonal skills
- Critical thinking and complex problem-solving abilities
- Proficiency with computers and related software applications
- Ability to develop and implement comprehensive outcomes-based patient treatment plans
- Ability to counsel patients concerning medical and psychological conditions, treatment plans, and behavior modification
- Ability to interpret and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic tests

Less than one year of experience is acceptable for this position.
