Nurse Practitioner

NaphCare is hiring a Nurse Practitioner to provide healthcare services at Forsyth Detention Center in Winston Salem, NC. In this correctional healthcare role, you will work alongside correctional officers and medical professionals to assess, diagnose, and treat incarcerated individuals with a range of medical conditions and chronic illnesses. Clinical Setting

You will work within a correctional facility where security is a top priority. The role requires close collaboration with correctional officers and other healthcare professionals to ensure the safety and well-being of patients while providing quality care that protects their rights, dignity, and health.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physical examinations, develop treatment plans, and monitor patients
• Manage acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes
• Administer medications and provide instructions to patients
• Monitor and document patient health including vital signs and medical histories
• Provide direct patient care, triage, assess patient needs, develop care plans, and coordinate services
• Respond to medical emergencies, provide first aid, and ensure timely transport to appropriate healthcare facilities
• Educate patients on preventative care, healthy lifestyle choices, and substance abuse prevention
• Understand and adhere to correctional facility security protocols
• Maintain accurate medical records and document treatment plans
• Conduct rounds and evaluate patients returning from off-site treatment
• Admit and discharge patients from the facility

Required Qualifications

• Master's or Doctorate degree in nursing or related advanced nursing education
• Current unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in North Carolina
• Current DEA registration
• Appropriate collaborative agreement with the on-site Physician
• Active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association required)
• Board certification recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties
• Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, and applicable healthcare laws and regulations
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of proprietary and confidential information
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and in a team
• Integrity and professionalism with ability to adhere to Code of Conduct and comply with all facility correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
• Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for long periods
• Ability to lift and move patients up to 50 pounds
• Ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, and walk significant distances
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as CPR while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a correctional facility or acute care center
