Nurse Practitioner

Mercy Medical Center seeks a Nurse Practitioner to provide professional medical services to patients of MercyCare Community Physicians. Working within a collaborative ARNP/Physician relationship, you will exercise autonomy in medical decision-making while delivering patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

• Obtain and record comprehensive medical histories, including chief complaint, past medical history, family history, social history, review of systems, and physical examination
• Formulate diagnoses and document assessments and plans of care in accordance with professional standards and Mercy policies
• Perform and order clinically appropriate procedures, with proper documentation
• Analyze reports and findings from tests and clinical examinations to assess patient medical conditions
• Prescribe clinically appropriate medications and treatments in collaboration with the supervising physician
• Refer patients to specialists and other healthcare providers as warranted by patient condition
• Maintain accurate, complete, timely, and legible medical records in compliance with professional standards and third-party payer requirements
• Report births, deaths, disease outbreaks, and other legally required information to governmental authorities
• Use and promote evidence-based clinical practice
• Exercise final medical judgment in healthcare decisions
• Review long-term cases requiring ongoing medical attention on a regular basis
• Consult with the Medical Director and other medical professionals regarding patient care, assessment, and education
• Participate in quality improvement, management, continuing education, and other patient care programs
• Assist in resolving patient complaints, requests, and inquiries
• Maintain current knowledge of state and federal regulations affecting ARNP practice
• Follow Mercy safety guidelines, carry out job-specific safety duties, and promptly report unsafe conditions and incidents

Schedule

• Day shift
• 40 scheduled hours per week

Required Qualifications

• Licensed to practice medicine without restriction or limitation in the State of Iowa
• Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) in accordance with the American Heart Association
• Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse/Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training certification, submitted to Human Resources prior to start or transfer date
• Medical staff privileges at Mercy Medical Center may be required
• Education sufficient to obtain required licensure

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous clinical experience
• Previous experience in field of practice

Physical Requirements

• Exert 20-50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 10-15 lbs. of force frequently

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques
• Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with proper telephone etiquette
• Ability to perform duties in a tactful and professional manner
