Nurse Practitioner - Klingenstein 3 NICU - Mount Sinai Hospital - Full Time - Night

Mount Sinai Hospital is seeking a Nurse Practitioner for the Klingenstein 3 NICU, a full-time night shift position. As an NP in this role, you will provide independent advanced practice nursing care to neonatal patients and their families in a leading academic medical center.

Clinical Setting

You will work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Mount Sinai Hospital, one of the largest academic medical systems in the New York metro area. The NICU serves critically ill and premature newborns requiring specialized care.

Responsibilities

• Assess the health status of patients and families through comprehensive health history and physical examination
• Initiate and order therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations, and laboratory examinations
• Prescribe medication regimens according to accepted standards of care and practice guidelines
• Interpret findings and alter the plan of care based on patient response and clinical judgment
• Educate and counsel families in health promotion, disease prevention, and management of acute and chronic illnesses
• Document findings and plan of care in the patient's medical record
• Consult with physicians according to established standards, policies, procedures, and protocols
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate to neonatal patient care, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety considerations
• Initiate referrals to specialty services and foster continuity of care
• Participate in team meetings and conferences to support an interdisciplinary approach to care delivery
• Maintain patient and employee confidentiality
• Develop individualized plans of care based on diagnoses and patient needs
• Record, report, and interpret patient responses to the plan of care
• Perform patient record reviews with the collaborating physician at least every three months if utilizing a collaborative practice agreement
• Complete Focused Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (FPPE) or Ongoing Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (OPPE) as required by Medical Staff
• Practice as a member of the allied health staff according to Medical Staff rules and Hospital bylaws
• Serve as a resource person to nurses and other health team members
• Participate in peer review and departmental committees
• Incorporate research findings into clinical practice and participate in approved nursing and medical research studies
• Maintain current knowledge through self-directed learning, literature review, and educational programs

Required Qualifications

• Active New York State RN license with current registration
• Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the New York State Department of Education with current registration
• Master's degree from a New York State registered Nurse Practitioner program or equivalent, or successful completion of an approved supplemental education program (post-master's NP certificate)
• Completion of a pharmacy component with instruction in New York State and Federal laws relating to prescriptions and recordkeeping (3-hour course)
• Collaborative Practice Agreement with a physician and designated protocols if you have fewer than 3,600 hours of experience as a practicing Nurse Practitioner, OR a Collaborative Relationship with a physician based on employment in the NP role at Mount Sinai Hospital if you have documented work history as an NP with greater than 3,600 practice hours
• Previous progressive experience relevant to neonatal clinical practice
• National Board Certification in Advanced Practice Nursing (required for all NPs hired effective June 1, 2019, or for NPs who bill for professional services; may be deferred up to 1 year if approved by Chief Nursing Officer)
• Credentialing through the Credentialing Committee of the Medical Board with approved Delineation of Privileges
• Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
• Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS) certification
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
• Physical stamina and manual dexterity to perform a variety of tasks and skills in the NICU setting
• Ability to perform history taking and physical assessment techniques
• Ability to interpret and apply principles of nursing research utilization
• Ability to manage and coordinate a patient caseload
• Excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, creative problem solving, critical thinking, and leadership abilities

Compensation

• Hourly rate: $84.59
• Actual salaries depend on experience, education, and operational need
• Salary range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits
