Nurse Practitioner - Klingenstein 3 NICU - Mount Sinai Hospital-Full Time - Night

Mount Sinai Hospital seeks a Nurse Practitioner for Klingenstein 3 NICU, a full-time night shift position. As an NP in this neonatal intensive care setting, you will provide independent advanced practice nursing care to critically ill newborns and their families. You will diagnose, treat, and prescribe within your scope of practice, working collaboratively with physicians and the interdisciplinary team to deliver evidence-based care.

Clinical Setting

Klingenstein 3 NICU at Mount Sinai Hospital is a neonatal intensive care unit serving critically ill and premature infants. This is a full-time night shift position.

Responsibilities

• Assess the health status of patients and families through comprehensive health history and physical examination
• Initiate and order therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations, and laboratory examinations
• Prescribe medication regimens according to accepted standards of care and practice guidelines
• Interpret findings and alter the plan of care based on patient response and clinical judgment
• Educate and counsel families in health promotion, disease prevention, and management of acute and chronic illnesses
• Document findings and plan of care in the patient's medical record
• Consult with physicians according to established standards, policies, procedures, and protocols
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate to neonatal care and the age of patients served
• Initiate referrals to specialty services and foster continuity of care
• Participate in team meetings and conferences to support an interdisciplinary approach to care delivery
• Maintain patient and employee confidentiality
• Develop individualized plans of care based on diagnoses and patient needs
• Record, report, and interpret patient responses to the plan of care
• Perform patient record reviews with the collaborating physician at least every three months if utilizing a collaborative practice agreement
• Complete Focused Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (FPPE) or Ongoing Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (OPPE) as required by Medical Staff
• Practice as a member of the allied health staff according to Medical Staff rules and Hospital bylaws
• Support the mission, vision, and goals of the Department of Nursing and Mount Sinai Health System
• Demonstrate accountability for your own nursing practice
• Adhere to the code of ethics and consider ethical issues in professional practice
• Serve as a resource person to nurses and other health team members
• Participate in peer review and departmental committees
• Incorporate research findings into clinical practice
• Maintain current knowledge through self-directed learning, literature review, and educational programs
• Contribute to maintaining a positive image of advanced practice nursing in the medical center and community

Required Qualifications

• Active New York State RN license with current registration
• New York State certification as a Nurse Practitioner with current registration
• Master's degree from a New York State registered Nurse Practitioner program or equivalent, or successful completion of an approved supplemental education program (post-master's NP certificate)
• Completion of a pharmacy component of not less than required semester hours
• Completion of a 3-hour course on New York State and Federal laws relating to prescriptions and recordkeeping
• Collaborative Practice Agreement with a physician and designated protocols if you have fewer than 3,600 hours of experience as a practicing Nurse Practitioner, OR a Collaborative Relationship with a physician based on employment in the NP role at Mount Sinai Hospital if you have documented work history as a Nurse Practitioner with greater than 3,600 practice hours
• Previous progressive experience relevant to neonatal clinical practice
• National Board Certification in Advanced Practice Nursing (required for all NPs hired effective June 1, 2019, or for NPs who bill for professional services; may be deferred up to 1 year if approved by Chief Nursing Officer)
• Credentialing through the Credentialing Committee of the Medical Board with approved Delineation of Privileges
• Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
• Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS) certification
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
• Physical stamina and manual dexterity to perform a variety of tasks and skills in the NICU setting

Compensation

Hourly rate: $84.59. Actual salaries depend on experience, education, and operational need. This rate does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
