Nurse Practitioner - Klingenstein 3 NICU - Mount Sinai Hospital-Full Time - Night

Mount Sinai Hospital is seeking a Nurse Practitioner for Klingenstein 3 NICU, a full-time night shift position. As an NP in the NICU, you will provide advanced clinical care to neonatal patients and their families, working independently within your scope of practice while collaborating with the interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Clinical Setting

You will work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Mount Sinai Hospital, providing specialized care to critically ill and premature infants. This is a full-time night shift position.

Responsibilities

• Assess the health status of patients and families through comprehensive health history and physical examination
• Initiate and order therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations, and laboratory examinations
• Prescribe medication regimens and interpret findings according to accepted standards of care and practice guidelines
• Alter the plan of care based on patient response and clinical assessment
• Educate and counsel patients and families in health promotion, disease prevention, and management of acute and chronic illnesses
• Document findings and plan of care in the patient's medical record
• Consult with physicians according to established standards, policies, procedures, and protocols
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to neonatal patients
• Initiate referrals to specialty services and foster continuity of care
• Participate in team meetings and conferences to enhance interdisciplinary care delivery
• Maintain patient and employee confidentiality
• Develop individualized plans of care based on diagnoses and patient needs
• Record, report, and interpret patient responses to the plan of care
• Perform patient record reviews with the collaborating physician at least every three months if utilizing a collaborative practice agreement
• Complete Focused Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (FPPE) or Ongoing Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (OPPE) as required by Medical Staff
• Practice as a member of the allied health staff according to Medical Staff rules and Hospital bylaws
• Participate in peer review and departmental committees
• Incorporate research findings into clinical practice
• Maintain current knowledge through self-directed learning, literature review, and educational programs
• Treat co-workers, patients, and families with dignity and respect

Required Qualifications

• Active New York State RN license with current registration
• Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the New York State Department of Education with current registration
• Master's degree program designed to prepare an NP to diagnose, treat, and prescribe within their specialty area of practice, or successful completion of an approved supplemental education program (post-master's NP certificate)
• Completion of a pharmacy component of not less than the required semester hours
• Instruction in New York State and Federal Laws relating to prescriptions and recordkeeping (3-hour course)
• Previous progressive experience relevant to neonatal clinical practice
• National Board Certification in Advanced Practice Nursing (required for all NPs hired effective June 1, 2019; for NPs who bill for professional services, required regardless of hire date; may be deferred up to 1 year if approved by Chief Nursing Officer or designee)
• Credentialing through the Credentialing Committee of the Medical Board with approved Delineation of Privileges
• Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
• Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS) certification
• The Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
• Collaborative Practice Agreement with a physician and designated protocols if less than 3,600 hours of experience as a practicing Nurse Practitioner, OR Collaborative Relationship with a physician based on employment in the NP role at Mount Sinai Hospital if documented work history as an NP with greater than 3,600 practice hours (all NPs will be placed on FPPE initially)
• Physical stamina and manual dexterity to perform a variety of tasks and skills in the NICU setting

Compensation

Hourly rate: $84.59. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. This rate does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
