Nurse Practitioner-Inpatient Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplant - Mount Sinai Hospital - Full Time - Day (12 hour shift)

Mount Sinai Hospital is seeking a Nurse Practitioner for Inpatient Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplant to join our clinical team. This is a full-time position working 12-hour day shifts. As a Nurse Practitioner, you will function as an independent practitioner within your specialty area, diagnosing, treating, and prescribing for patients under New York State regulations. Medical orders, progress notes, and treatment plans do not require physician countersignature.

Clinical Setting

You will work in the inpatient oncology and bone marrow transplant unit at Mount Sinai Hospital, part of one of the largest academic medical systems in the New York metro area. You will care for complex patients requiring specialized oncology and transplant expertise.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient and family health status through comprehensive health history and physical examination
• Initiate and order therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations, and laboratory examinations
• Prescribe medication regimens and interpret findings according to accepted standards of care and practice guidelines
• Alter the plan of care based on patient response and clinical assessment
• Educate and counsel patients in health promotion, disease prevention, and management of acute and chronic illnesses
• Document findings and plan of care in the patient's medical record
• Consult with physicians according to established standards, policies, procedures, and protocols
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate to the patient population served
• Initiate referrals to specialty services and foster continuity of care
• Participate in team meetings and conferences to support an interdisciplinary approach to care delivery
• Maintain patient and employee confidentiality
• Develop individualized plans of care based on diagnoses and patient needs
• Record, report, and interpret patient responses to the plan of care
• Perform patient record reviews with the collaborating physician at least every three months if utilizing a collaborative practice agreement
• Complete Focused Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (FPPE) or Ongoing Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (OPPE) as required by Medical Staff
• Practice as a member of the allied health staff according to Medical Staff rules and hospital bylaws
• Support the mission, vision, philosophy, and goals of the Department of Nursing and Mount Sinai Health System
• Demonstrate accountability for your nursing practice
• Consider ethical issues in professional nursing practice and adhere to the code of ethics
• Serve as a resource person to nurses and other health team members
• Participate in peer review
• Incorporate research findings into clinical practice
• Participate in approved nursing and medical research studies
• Keep knowledge current through self-directed learning, literature review, and attendance at educational programs
• Participate in defining and maintaining standards of nursing practice
• Contribute to maintaining a positive image of advanced practice nursing in the medical center and community
• Participate in departmental and interdisciplinary committees that influence policies affecting nursing practice and patient care
• Treat co-workers, patients, and families with dignity and respect

Required Qualifications

• Active New York State RN license with current registration
• Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the New York State Department of Education with current registration
• Master's degree program designed to prepare an NP to diagnose, treat, and prescribe within their specialty area, or successful completion of an approved supplemental education program (post-master's NP certificate)
• Previous progressive experience relevant to oncology and bone marrow transplant clinical practice
• National Board Certification in Advanced Practice Nursing (required for all NPs hired effective June 1, 2019; for NPs who bill for professional services, required regardless of hire date; may be deferred up to one year if approved by Chief Nursing Officer or designee)
• Credentialing through the Credentialing Committee of the Medical Board with approved Delineation of Privileges
• Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Collaborative Practice Agreement with a physician and designated protocols if you have fewer than 3,600 hours of experience as a practicing Nurse Practitioner, OR a Collaborative Relationship with a physician based on employment in the NP role at Mount Sinai Hospital if you have documented work history as a Nurse Practitioner with greater than 3,600 practice hours (all NPs will be placed on FPPE initially)
• Pharmacy component completion of not less than required semester hours and instruction in New York State and Federal Laws relating to prescriptions and recordkeeping (3-hour course)
• Ability to perform history taking and physical assessment techniques
• Ability to interpret and apply principles of nursing research utilization
• Ability to manage and coordinate a patient caseload
• Physical stamina and manual dexterity to perform a variety of tasks and skills in your area of assignment
• Excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, creative problem solving, critical thinking, and leadership abilities

Compensation

• Hourly rate: $84.59
• Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need
• Salary range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits
