Nurse Practitioner-Inpatient Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplant - Mount Sinai Hospital - Full Time - Day (12 hour shift)

Mount Sinai Hospital is seeking a Nurse Practitioner for Inpatient Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplant. This is a full-time position working 12-hour day shifts. As a Nurse Practitioner, you will work as an independent practitioner within your specialty area, diagnosing, treating, and prescribing for patients. Medical orders, progress notes, and treatment plans do not require physician countersignature.

Clinical Setting

You will provide care to inpatient oncology and bone marrow transplant patients at Mount Sinai Hospital, working as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient and family health status through comprehensive health history and physical examination
• Initiate and order therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations, and laboratory examinations
• Prescribe medication regimens and interpret findings
• Alter plan of care according to accepted standards of care and practice guidelines
• Educate and counsel patients in health promotion, disease prevention, and management of acute and chronic illnesses
• Document findings and plan of care in patient medical records
• Consult with physicians according to established standards, policies, procedures, and protocols
• Provide age-appropriate care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety criteria
• Initiate referrals to specialty services and foster continuity of care
• Participate in team meetings and conferences to enhance interdisciplinary care delivery
• Maintain patient and employee confidentiality
• Develop individualized plans of care based on diagnoses and patient needs
• Record, report, and interpret patient responses to the plan of care
• Perform patient record reviews with the collaborating physician at least every three months if utilizing a collaborative practice agreement
• Complete Focused Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (FPPE) or Ongoing Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (OPPE) as required by Medical Staff
• Practice as a member of the allied health staff according to Medical Staff rules and Hospital Staff bylaws
• Serve as a resource person to nurses and other health team members
• Participate in peer review and approved nursing and medical research studies
• Maintain current knowledge through self-directed learning, literature review, and educational programs
• Participate in departmental and interdisciplinary committees that influence nursing practice and patient care delivery

Required Qualifications

• Active New York State RN license with current registration
• New York State certification as a Nurse Practitioner with current registration
• Master's degree program designed to prepare an NP to diagnose, treat, and prescribe within their specialty area, or successful completion of an approved supplemental education program (post-master's NP certificate)
• Previous progressive experience relevant to oncology and bone marrow transplant clinical practice
• National Board Certification in Advanced Practice Nursing (required for all NPs hired effective June 1, 2019, or for NPs who bill for professional services; may be deferred up to one year if approved by Chief Nursing Officer or designee)
• Collaborative Practice Agreement with a physician and designated protocols if less than 3,600 hours of experience as a practicing Nurse Practitioner, OR Collaborative Relationship with a physician based on employment in the NP role at Mount Sinai Hospital if documented work history as an NP with greater than 3,600 practice hours
• Credentialing through the Credentialing Committee of the Medical Board with approved Delineation of Privileges
• Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
• Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS) certification
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification

Compensation

• Hourly rate: $84.59
• Actual salaries depend on experience, education, and operational need
• Salary range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits
