This full-time day position offers Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants the opportunity to provide comprehensive medical care in a hematology/oncology and infusion clinic setting. You will work collaboratively with a sponsoring physician to manage the medical aspects of patient care through jointly developed protocols, serving patients across the lifespan with acute, chronic, and long-term healthcare needs.
Responsibilities
- Provide general medical care and treatment to patients in the primary care setting
- Perform physical examinations and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines
- Assess growth and nutritional status of patients appropriately
- Diagnose and treat acute, chronic, and long-term healthcare issues
- Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient clinical problems and healthcare needs
- Record physical findings and formulate plans and prognosis based on patient condition
- Discuss cases with physicians and other health professionals to prepare comprehensive patient care plans
- Prescribe or recommend drugs or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or related therapeutic procedures
- Maintain legible, accurate, and confidential medical records, documenting all medical evaluations, diagnoses, procedures, treatment, outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations consistent with regulatory standards
- Approach patients and provide care in a developmentally appropriate manner
- Refer patients to physicians for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment as appropriate
- Order appropriate diagnostic screening tests according to protocol
- Educate patients and families about preventive care, immunizations, medical issues, and use of prescribed medical treatments and medications
- Work in an independent and interdependent relationship with members of the medical staff, allowing for consultation, collaboration, or referral
- Share knowledge and skills with colleagues to enhance professional development
- Foster mature professional relationships with fellow employees in a courteous and friendly manner
- Analyze new knowledge from conferences, workshops, professional literature, and hands-on training and assimilate it into clinical practice
- Respectfully use hospital resources and time appropriately, avoiding misuse, abuse, or waste
- Optimize time efficiently and effectively, serving as a role model and resource for others
- Promptly, thoroughly, and accurately record applicable patient charges to ensure appropriate billing of services
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree required
- Nurse Practitioner license in the State of Tennessee
- Active listener with critical thinking skills
- Ability to reflect a professional and caring persona for patients and families
Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more years of experience in pediatric infusions and/or hematology/oncology
Reporting
You will report to the Practice Administrator and Provider.
Physical Requirements
Light lifting, pushing, and pulling of 10-20 lbs occasionally is required, with frequent moving of objects less than 10 lbs. Frequent sitting with some walking, standing, squatting, bending, and reaching is required. Keyboard/computer use and repetitive motions may be required.
