Nurse Practitioner-Heart Hospital NPS - Mount Sinai Hospital - Full Time - Day

Mount Sinai Hospital's Heart Hospital is seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner to provide comprehensive patient care in a cardiac specialty setting. As an independent practitioner, you will diagnose, treat, and prescribe for patients within your specialty area of practice. This role does not require physician countersignature of medical orders, progress notes, or treatment plans.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient and family health status through comprehensive health history and physical examination
• Order and initiate therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations, and laboratory examinations
• Prescribe medication regimens and interpret findings according to accepted standards of care and practice guidelines
• Educate and counsel patients in health promotion, disease prevention, and management of acute and chronic illnesses
• Document findings and plan of care in patient medical records
• Consult with physicians according to established standards, policies, procedures, and protocols
• Develop individualized plans of care based on diagnoses and patient needs
• Initiate referrals to specialty services and foster continuity of care
• Participate in team meetings and interdisciplinary conferences
• Perform patient record reviews with collaborating physician at least every three months if utilizing a collaborative practice agreement
• Complete Focused Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (FPPE) or Ongoing Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (OPPE) as required by Medical Staff
• Maintain patient and employee confidentiality
• Practice as a member of the allied health staff according to Medical Staff rules and Hospital bylaws

Required Qualifications

• Active New York State RN license with current registration
• Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the New York State Department of Education with current registration
• Master's degree program designed to prepare an NP to diagnose, treat, and prescribe within specialty area of practice, or successful completion of an approved supplemental education program (post-master's NP certificate)
• Completion of pharmacy component of not less than required semester hours
• Instruction in New York State and Federal Laws relating to prescriptions and recordkeeping (3-hour course)
• Previous progressive experience relevant to the area of clinical practice
• Ability to perform history taking and physical assessment techniques
• Ability to interpret and apply principles of nursing research utilization
• Ability to manage and coordinate a patient caseload
• Physical stamina and manual dexterity to perform a variety of tasks and skills in area of assignment
• Excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, creative problem solving, critical thinking, and leadership
• Work within a Collaborative Practice Agreement or Collaborative Practice Relationship Attestation as a member of the health care team

Licenses and Certifications

• Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
• National Board Certification in Advanced Practice Nursing (required for all NPs hired effective June 1, 2019, or for NPs who bill for professional services; may be deferred up to 1 year if approved by Chief Nursing Officer or designee)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certificates as required by specialty
• Credentialing through the Credentialing Committee of the Medical Board with approved Delineation of Privileges

Collaborative Practice Requirements

• If you have less than 3,600 hours of experience as a practicing Nurse Practitioner, you must have a Collaborative Practice Agreement with a physician and designated protocols
• If you have documented work history as a Nurse Practitioner with greater than 3,600 practice hours, you may have a Collaborative Relationship with a physician based on employment in clinical practice in the NP role at Mount Sinai Hospital
• All NPs will be placed on FPPE initially regardless of status

Compensation

• Hourly rate: $84.59
• Actual salaries depend on experience, education, and operational need
• Salary does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits
