Mount Sinai Hospital's Heart Hospital is seeking a Nurse Practitioner for a full-time evening position. As a Nurse Practitioner, you will work as an independent practitioner within your specialty area, diagnosing, treating, and prescribing for patients. You will practice collaboratively with physicians and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to deliver comprehensive cardiac care.
Responsibilities
- Assess patient health status through comprehensive health history and physical examination
- Order and initiate therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations, and laboratory examinations
- Prescribe medication regimens and interpret findings according to accepted standards of care and practice guidelines
- Educate and counsel patients in health promotion, disease prevention, and management of acute and chronic illnesses
- Document findings and plan of care in patient medical records
- Consult with physicians according to established standards, policies, procedures, and protocols
- Develop individualized plans of care based on patient diagnoses and needs
- Initiate referrals to specialty services and foster continuity of care
- Participate in team meetings and conferences to support interdisciplinary care delivery
- Maintain patient and employee confidentiality
- Record, report, and interpret patient responses to the plan of care
- Perform patient record reviews with the collaborating physician at least every three months if utilizing a collaborative practice agreement
- Complete Focused Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (FPPE) or Ongoing Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (OPPE) as required by Medical Staff
- Practice as a member of the allied health staff according to Medical Staff rules and Hospital Staff bylaws
- Serve as a resource person to nurses and other health team members
- Participate in peer review and departmental committees
- Incorporate research findings into clinical practice and participate in approved nursing and medical research studies
- Maintain current knowledge through self-directed learning, literature review, and educational programs
Clinical Setting
You will work in the Heart Hospital at Mount Sinai Hospital, part of one of the largest academic medical systems in the New York metro area. Mount Sinai is consistently ranked by U.S. News & World Report, including top 5 in Cardiology/Heart Surgery.
Required Qualifications
- Active New York State RN license with current registration
- Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the New York State Department of Education with current registration
- Master's degree from a New York State registered Nurse Practitioner program or equivalent, or successful completion of an approved supplemental education program (post-master's NP certificate)
- Previous progressive experience relevant to cardiac clinical practice
- National Board Certification in Advanced Practice Nursing (required for all NPs hired effective June 1, 2019; for NPs who bill for professional services, required regardless of hire date; may be deferred up to 1 year if approved by Chief Nursing Officer or designee)
- Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Credentialing through the Credentialing Committee of the Medical Board with approved Delineation of Privileges
- Collaborative Practice Agreement with a physician and designated protocols if you have fewer than 3,600 hours of experience as a practicing Nurse Practitioner, OR Collaborative Relationship with a physician based on employment in the NP role at Mount Sinai Hospital if you have documented work history as a Nurse Practitioner with greater than 3,600 practice hours (all NPs will be placed on FPPE initially)
Education and Certification Requirements
- Completion of a pharmacy component of not less than the required semester hours or equivalent
- Instruction in New York State and Federal Laws relating to prescriptions and recordkeeping (3-hour course)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS), and The Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certificates as required by specialty

- Full-time, evening shift

Compensation
- Hourly rate: $84.59
- Actual salaries depend on experience, education, and operational need
- Salary range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits
