The opportunity

Job Description

Exer Urgent Care is seeking a Nurse Practitioner for center-based clinical positions in the Los Angeles, Ventura, and Orange County areas. This role focuses on providing direct patient care in a fast-paced urgent care environment, working collaboratively with emergency medicine physicians to deliver comprehensive care to patients of all ages.

Clinical Setting

You will work in a moderate-noise clinical environment with potential exposure to infectious diseases and blood-borne pathogens. The position requires the ability to stand and sit for extended periods, perform bending and stooping, use manual dexterity for clinical tasks, and lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Perform physical examinations and preventive health measures within physician guidelines
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to assess patient clinical problems and health care needs
  • Record physical findings and formulate treatment plans and prognosis based on patient condition
  • Discuss cases with physicians and other health professionals to develop comprehensive patient care plans
  • Submit health care plans and patient goals for periodic physician review and evaluation
  • Prescribe or recommend medications and therapeutic treatments such as physical therapy or inhalation therapy
  • Refer patients to physicians for consultation or specialized health resources
  • Practice standard and disease-specific precautions through proper handwashing and personal protective equipment use
  • Exercise nursing autonomy in patient care while coordinating with the emergency department physician
  • Triage patients while obtaining vital signs, thorough history, and nursing assessment
  • Explain procedures and treatments to patients to gain cooperation and understanding
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments according to approved nursing techniques
  • Delegate within scope of practice to other clinical staff
  • Prepare equipment and assist providers during patient treatment and examination
  • Maintain awareness of patient dignity, comfort, and safety needs
  • Observe patients, record significant conditions and reactions, and notify providers of changes in patient condition, medication reactions, and significant incidents
  • Respond to life-saving situations based on nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol
  • Manage patient flow through effective communication with all disciplines
  • Initiate thorough patient education plans according to individualized patient needs
  • Maintain, check, and utilize laboratory and testing equipment
  • Provide follow-up for all patients to ensure good outcomes and implement further treatment as necessary
  • Maintain a clean and orderly environment
  • Prioritize patient safety and satisfaction
  • Participate in quality improvement activities
  • Monitor inventory control and supplies
  • Provide direct patient care interventions per scope of practice and provider orders
  • Demonstrate cost awareness and stewardship for company resources

Required Qualifications

  • Active state medical license
  • Minimum one year of experience in Emergency Medicine or Urgent Care
  • Minimum one year of solo practice experience
  • Board eligibility or board certification
  • Experience with procedures including suturing and splinting
  • Experience reading diagnostic studies including x-rays and EKGs
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification
  • Proficiency with intravenous access for blood draw and drug administration
  • Competence with computer use and electronic medical records (EMR)
  • Outstanding bedside manner with children and adults
  • Ability to multitask and work well under pressure
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
