California Correctional Health Care Services seeks a Nurse Practitioner for Ironwood State Prison in Blythe, California, located in Riverside County on the California-Arizona border. Under the supervision of the Chief Physician and Surgeon, you will assess and manage the health care needs of the incarcerated population in ambulatory, inpatient, and specialized clinical settings.

Responsibilities

  • Perform physical examinations and therapeutic procedures
  • Interpret routine laboratory and imaging results
  • Assess and manage patient health care needs across multiple clinical settings
  • Educate and counsel patients regarding physical and mental health matters
  • May be assigned call duties with backup supervision by a physician manager

Clinical Setting

This position is located at Ironwood State Prison, a correctional facility in Blythe, California. You will work within the California correctional health care system serving an incarcerated patient population.

Employment Details

  • This is a 12-month limited-term full-time position that may be extended or become permanent
  • Multiple positions are available
  • Work location: Riverside County, in-office (no telework)
  • Travel may be required

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary: $13,043.00 to $14,745.00 per month
  • New to State candidates will be hired at the minimum salary
  • Effective July 1, 2025, a 3% base salary reduction applies to all full-time employees in Bargaining Unit 17 through June 2027, with 5 Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025 leave credits provided monthly

Required Qualifications

  • Current active license as a registered nurse in California
  • Current certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the Board of Registered Nurses

Note: Applicants without the required license and certification will be admitted to the examination but must secure these credentials before being considered eligible for appointment.

Additional Requirements

  • Background investigation utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting (required for candidates new to CCHCS)
  • Tuberculosis (TB) testing prior to appointment, followed by annual TB testing/evaluation
  • E-Verify confirmation of identity and employment authorization
  • If using academic education above the twelfth grade to meet minimum qualifications, include unofficial transcripts or diploma
  • Applicants with foreign degrees or transcripts must obtain and submit verification of U.S. course/degree equivalency
