California Correctional Health Care Services is seeking a Nurse Practitioner for North Kern State Prison (NKSP) in Delano, California. Under the supervision of the Chief Physician and Surgeon, you will assess and manage the health care needs of patients in ambulatory, inpatient, and specialized clinical settings within a correctional facility.
Responsibilities
- Perform physical examinations and therapeutic procedures
- Interpret routine laboratory and imaging results
- Assess and manage patient health care needs across multiple clinical settings
- Educate and counsel patients regarding physical and mental health matters
- May be assigned call duties with backup supervision by a physician manager
Clinical Setting
This position is located at North Kern State Prison, a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation facility. You will work in a correctional health care environment serving an incarcerated population.
Schedule and Employment Type
- Part-time position: 20 hours per week (1/2 time)
- Permanent appointment
- In-office work (no telework)
- Travel may be required
Compensation
- Monthly salary range: $6,521.50 to $7,372.50 (part-time)
- New to State candidates will be hired at the minimum salary
- Note: Effective July 1, 2025, a 3% base salary reduction and 5 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027 apply to all full-time employees in Bargaining Unit 17 and related excluded, exempt, and statutory exempt employees. Part-time employees are subject to the same conditions on a prorated basis.
Required Qualifications
- Current California registered nurse (RN) license
- Current certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the California Board of Registered Nurses
Required Documents
- Completed State Examination/Employment Application (STD 678) or electronic application through CalCareers
- Copy of degree and/or unofficial transcripts if using academic education above the twelfth grade to meet minimum qualifications
- Copy of current RN license
- Copy of current Nurse Practitioner certification
Additional Requirements
- Background investigation utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting (required for candidates new to CCHCS)
- Tuberculosis (TB) testing prior to appointment, followed by annual TB testing/evaluation
- E-Verify confirmation of identity and employment authorization
- Applicants who completed education outside the US must obtain and submit verification of US course/degree equivalency
