Nurse Practitioner

Saint Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix is seeking a Surgical Complex Specialty Nurse Practitioner to provide clinical care for complex surgical patients in collaboration with physicians and medical directors. In this role, you will assume clinical responsibility for patient assessments, diagnoses, and management within the Nurse Practitioner scope of practice, with particular focus on patients in critical care units and the periprocedural period.

Clinical Setting

Saint Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center is a 571-bed nonprofit hospital featuring specialized centers including the Barrow Neurological Institute, Norton Thoracic Institute, and a Level I Trauma Center. You will work within a multidisciplinary team environment providing specialized surgical care.

Responsibilities

• Take patient histories and perform physical examinations
• Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests
• Establish diagnoses and provide care management for various illnesses and disease prevention
• Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges
• Make appropriate referrals to specialists and community agencies
• Provide specialized care and management for complex surgical patients, often in critical care units
• Respond to acute situations in the periprocedural period
• Collaborate with surgical teams to optimize patient outcomes
• Perform patient evaluations and recommend therapeutic interventions
• Counsel patients and families on treatment plans
• Serve as the primary point of contact for managing patient care
• Perform and document admissions, discharges, histories and physicals, and progress notes
• Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement programs
• Develop patient-centered care plans within a multidisciplinary team

Call Requirements

• Take first call after hours and weekends for all patients on service (ICU, floor, telemetry, and after-hours answering service for clinic patients)
• Minimum one day per week call after 5 PM
• One weekend call per month, beginning Friday at 5 PM through Monday at 8 AM, including patient rounding and other identified patient care needs
• Call coverage schedule must be submitted by the 20th of the month prior to the start of the call period

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
• Three years of clinical experience in a related area or specialty field
• Compact state or Arizona RN license
• Arizona Advance Practice Nurse license (LIC APN)
• National Nurse Practitioner certification in area of specialty under Arizona regulations: CT NP-AACN, CT NP-AANP, CT NP-ANCC, or CT NP-PNCB
• DEA registration
• American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (CT ACLS)
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CT CPRBLS)

Compensation

Pay range: $125,299.20 - $206,731.20 per year
