Geisinger Behavioral Health Danville seeks a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide inpatient psychiatric care in collaboration with physicians. In this role, you will evaluate patients, establish presumptive diagnoses, implement treatment plans, order and interpret diagnostic testing, and prescribe medications and therapeutic interventions within your scope of practice. You will work with an interdisciplinary team including nursing staff, physicians, and department colleagues to deliver safe, ethical care while advocating for patients and their families.
Clinical Setting
This is a full-time, regular position based at Geisinger Behavioral Health Danville. The role may include consult liaison services at other locations, delivered either in person or via telemedicine from the primary site.
Responsibilities
- Assess patients and establish presumptive diagnoses; implement and adjust treatment plans as appropriate
- Make accurate and complete entries into the electronic medical record
- Order and interpret diagnostic testing and consults as clinically indicated
- Prescribe, adjust, or discontinue medications and therapies based on evidence-based practice
- Evaluate and report to the collaborating physician any circumstances, medical management approaches, or test results that present significant risk to patient health or well-being
- Perform procedures within the scope of nurse practitioner or physician assistant practice
- Communicate with the collaborating physician, patients, primary care providers, and referring staff via telephone or other correspondence
- Provide patient education and health information to patients and families in understandable language
- Interpret and follow organizational policies and guidelines to meet procedural and deadline requirements
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Nursing (Nurse Practitioner) or equivalent graduate education (Physician Assistant)
- Active Pennsylvania RN license (for NP candidates)
- Certified Nurse Practitioner credential from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (for NP candidates)
- Basic Life Support certification
- For NP candidates: PMHNP (Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner) certification
- For PA candidates: Equivalent psychiatric experience; CAQ (Certificate of Added Qualification) in Psychiatry or CAQ eligibility is strongly preferred
