This position offers the opportunity to provide comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnostic evaluation, and medication management in an outpatient behavioral health setting. You will conduct initial and follow-up psychiatric evaluations, order and interpret diagnostic testing, develop individualized treatment plans, and prescribe medications while monitoring efficacy and managing side effects. You will also provide patient education on diagnoses, treatment options, and medication risks and benefits to support informed decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive initial and follow-up psychiatric evaluations to assess patient needs and monitor progress
- Interpret clinical data to determine appropriate management and treatment strategies
- Order and evaluate diagnostic and laboratory tests, ensuring appropriate follow-up when abnormal results are identified
- Facilitate referrals to higher levels of care for complex medical concerns beyond the outpatient scope
- Prescribe and monitor medications for psychiatric conditions, evaluating efficacy and managing potential side effects
- Provide comprehensive education on diagnosis, treatment options, medication risks, benefits, and alternatives
- Identify acute psychiatric crises and coordinate immediate intervention, including referrals to specialized crisis services
- Coordinate with primary care providers and external healthcare teams to optimize patient care and treatment outcomes
- Participate in peer review processes to ensure clinical excellence and continuous improvement in patient care
Required Qualifications
- Master's Degree from an accredited nursing program
- Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) certification or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) certification with Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMH-BC) certification
- Valid Advanced Practice Registered Nursing (APRN) License in West Virginia
- Valid state-issued driver's license
- Current knowledge of standards of care and practices, typically acquired through continuing education
- Proficiency with electronic clinical systems, including EHR and scheduling systems
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Work Environment
- Work is performed in a public, customer-facing, high-traffic environment
- Work may involve working with disruptive or distressed individuals
