CVHS is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to provide comprehensive nursing and medical care in a community health setting. You will assess patients' physical and emotional needs, perform examinations, order and interpret diagnostic tests, diagnose conditions, prescribe medications, and provide follow-up care. You will work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers to deliver patient-centered medical care, with consultation available when cases fall outside your scope of practice.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing and medical care to patients and their families
- Assess physical and emotional health needs and plan appropriate care delivery
- Obtain patient histories and perform physical examinations
- Order, perform, and interpret laboratory and radiographic diagnostic tests
- Diagnose conditions and provide necessary treatment with appropriate follow-up
- Prescribe and dispense medications according to protocol and state licensure
- Refer patients to specialists or other services when needs fall outside your scope of practice
- Direct, organize, and participate in preventive health programs including immunizations, disease detection, and disease prevention activities
- Provide health maintenance education to patients individually and in community group settings
- Maintain complete, organized medical records in problem-oriented format
- Participate in quality assurance programs and health care program planning and evaluation
- Consult with collaborating physicians regarding complex patients or cases beyond your experience level
- Perform administrative, supervisory, and teaching duties as directed
- Support a team-based approach to patient-centered care
- Work some after-hours or on-call coverage as needed
Clinical Setting
This position is based in a rural community health setting with a fully integrated electronic health record system (eClinicalWorks). You will work without on-site physician supervision and must be comfortable with rural living.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Active RN license in Virginia
- Graduate of an approved Nurse Practitioner program (Adult, Pediatric, or Family)
- Current certification as an Adult, Family, or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner as required by Virginia
- Previous experience as an RN in public health, community health nursing, or home health nursing
- Ability to function well with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to deal effectively with hostile or uncooperative patients
- Ability to maintain professional demeanor in difficult circumstances
- Commitment to rural living
- Ability to work without on-site physician supervision
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner
Education and Certifications
- Graduation from an accredited nursing school
- Completion of an approved Adult, Pediatric, or Family Nurse Practitioner program
- Current certification by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, American Nurses Association, American Nurses Credentialing Center, or another respected and appropriate authority
Licenses
- Active RN license in Virginia
- Nurse Practitioner license in Virginia
