Nurse Practitioner (2328) All Specialties - Citywide - H00175

The San Francisco Department of Public Health seeks Nurse Practitioners to deliver clinical care across the San Francisco Health Network, Population Health Division, Behavioral Health Services, and Administration. You will work in person across hospitals, clinics, programs, and offices throughout the city, including Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center, and over 15 primary care health centers.

Under general nursing and medical direction and utilizing standardized procedures, you will function within an organized system for the delivery of health care in association with other members of the multidisciplinary health care team.

Responsibilities

• Provide routine preventative and continuity of care to adult and/or pediatric patients, including complete history and physical examinations
• Order diagnostic tests, which may include laboratory tests, X-rays and other imaging, EKGs, and other disease or condition specific diagnostic tests
• Identify and manage patients with unstable chronic diseases appropriate to clinical specialty
• Provide urgent care to acutely ill patients
• Develop acute care plans for patients in inpatient settings
• Assess and diagnose patients, develop treatment plans, and furnish medications
• Counsel and educate patients and collaborate with the healthcare team
• Consult with physicians on the diagnosis and treatment of unstable and complex patient conditions
• Document medical records and adhere to patient privacy requirements
• Participate in staff meetings and conferences regarding patient care, quality improvement, and control activities
• Perform other duties as assigned or required

Required Qualifications

• Valid California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing
• Current medication furnishing license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing
• National board certification or eligibility as a Nurse Practitioner issued by one of the following: American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), American Nurses Association – American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), Pediatric Nursing Certification Board, National Certification Corporation (NCC) for Women's Health Care and Neonatal Nursing Specialties, or American Association of Critical Care Nurses
• Licenses must show "Current" on search.dca.ca.gov. Include your license numbers in your application.

Additional Requirements

Some positions have additional requirements. Depending on the specific role, you may need:

• Valid Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certificate issued by the American Heart Association
• Specialization as a Family NP, Adult NP, Adult Gerontology NP, Women's Health NP, Acute Care NP, Pediatric NP, or Psychiatric Mental Health NP
• Ability to obtain Security Clearance from the San Francisco Sheriff's Department
• Furnishing and dispensing number (or ability to pass the credential process within 90 days of hire)
• Certification as a Medical Examiner by the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners
• Six months (equivalent to 1,000 hours) of work experience as a Health Care provider treating patients in a long-term care facility, skilled nursing facility, or other acute long-term care setting
• Minimum of six months (equivalent to 1,000 hours) of Occupational Health experience
• One year (equivalent to 2,000 hours) of experience as a Registered Nurse on a psychiatric inpatient unit, psychiatric emergency service clinic, or mental health center
• One year (equivalent to 2,000 hours) of experience in a setting that treats HIV, AIDS, and Sexually Transmitted Infections

Note: One-year full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours based on a 40-hour work week.

Selection Process

After application submission, candidates deemed qualified must complete a Training and Experience Evaluation Supplemental Questionnaire. This evaluation is designed to measure knowledge, skills, and abilities in job-related areas, which may include knowledge of the role and scope of practice of the Nurse Practitioner, health treatments, maintenance and promotion, health care resources and systems, ability to assess and diagnose and develop treatment plans, ability to serve vulnerable populations, collaborative ability, oral communication ability, and written communication ability.

Candidates must achieve a passing score on the Training and Experience Evaluation to continue in the selection process and will be placed on the confidential eligible list in rank order according to their final score. Additional selection processes may be conducted by the hiring department prior to making final hiring decisions.

Candidate names will remain on the eligible list for a maximum period of 12 months. Candidates that are not selected and expire off the list may reapply.
