Nurse Extern - Various Units Available

Henry Ford Health is hiring Nurse Externs for the 2026 program at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital. This is an excellent opportunity for nursing students to gain clinical experience under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse while completing their nursing education.

As a Nurse Extern, you will perform specific patient care duties to meet the safety and comfort needs of patients using the nursing process. You will provide input to assist the RN in planning and implementing patient care, respond to emergent situations according to established procedures, and participate in continuing education.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
• Currently enrolled in an accredited school of nursing
• Completion of two clinical rotations by the scheduled start date, one of which must be Med/Surg in an acute care setting

Program Requirements

• Start date: December 14, 2026
• Mandatory orientation: December 14-18 from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
• Hiring 2027-2028 nursing graduates

Conditions of Employment

• You must actively remain enrolled in your nursing program throughout your employment as an extern
• You must successfully complete each course in your nursing program
• You must provide transcripts to the Nurse Manager after each course
• If at any point you do not meet your academic institution's standard for continued enrollment in nursing classes, your employment as an extern will be rescinded
