Upson Regional Medical Center offers a structured Nurse Extern Program designed to help nursing students gain hands-on clinical experience and prepare for entry into professional nursing practice. This program features three progressive tiers with pay increases at each level, providing a clear career pathway and investment in your success.
The program is organized into three tiers that advance as you progress through your nursing education:
Start building your foundation with essential clinical skills including vital signs, patient assessments, and glucose checks. You will complete a 6-week rotation through core hospital departments to gain well-rounded exposure to different clinical areas.
Advance your skills by working in specialty areas such as the Emergency Department, ICU, Operating Room, Labor & Delivery, Cath Lab, and Wound Healing Center.
In your final semester, work one-on-one with a nurse preceptor in the department of your choice. This intensive mentorship prepares you for your transition into professional nursing practice.
Upon graduation, you are eligible to apply for the Nurse Residency Program.
The Nurse Extern position is valid until you pass the state licensure examination. This appointment is limited to six months and two attempts at licensure.
