Nurse Extern Telemetry

Join Medical City Heart & Spine Hospital as a Nurse Extern on the Telemetry unit, where you'll gain hands-on clinical experience as part of the nursing team while enrolled in your nursing program. This part-time, night shift position offers the opportunity to explore the full scope of the Registered Nurse role, build essential skills, and develop confidence in patient care delivery.

Medical City Heart & Spine Hospital specializes in advanced cardiovascular and spine care. The Heart Hospital features 65+ private patient rooms and provides complex vascular and heart surgery, advanced heart failure treatment, minimally invasive vascular surgery, and specialized cardiac emergency services. The Spine Hospital has 25+ beds and treats common spine disorders as well as rare, hard-to-treat spinal deformities including adult and pediatric scoliosis and spondylolistheses, offering both complex and minimally invasive surgical options.

Responsibilities

• Provide essential patient care including assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), vital sign monitoring, mobility support, and comfort and hygiene measures
• Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as you gain experience and competency
• Document care accurately and communicate timely updates with the nursing team to ensure seamless, coordinated patient care
• Help patients and families understand their care plans and provide guidance for health and recovery
• Maintain clean and safe patient areas by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and organizing the environment
• Engage in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and work with your supervisor or preceptor to develop your personal career development plan

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program
• Completion of Foundation, Fundamental, or Med Surg I clinical coursework
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification
