Nurse Extern

Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare is seeking a Nurse Extern to gain clinical experience and develop foundational nursing skills under the supervision of a registered nurse. This role is designed as a learning opportunity for nursing students to apply classroom knowledge in a real clinical setting while assisting with patient care and maintaining a safe environment.

Clinical Setting

Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare is a 772-bed acute care hospital and regional healthcare leader serving a 22-county region in North Florida and South Georgia. The system includes a Level II Trauma Center, Primary Stroke Center, Level III Neonatal Intensive Care, Pediatric Intensive Care, and advanced programs in cancer, heart and vascular care, orthopedics, and surgery.

Responsibilities

• Perform delegated basic patient care services under RN supervision
• Assist patients with activities of daily living
• Maintain a safe patient environment
• Acquire basic clinical skills and advance knowledge related to patient care

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited registered nursing program
• Successfully completed at least one clinical semester of the core curriculum
• Active American Heart Association CPR/BLS Healthcare Provider card
• Ability to maintain flexible scheduling of at least 32 hours per month, including one weekend shift and one major holiday in summer and one major holiday in winter

Schedule

• Flexible scheduling based on unit need and colleague availability
• Minimum 32 hours per month required
• Must include one weekend shift per month
• Must include one major holiday shift in summer and one major holiday shift in winter
• Mandatory full-week hospital orientation (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) required before starting the position

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a drug screen, background check, reference verification, health assessment, and credential verification.
