Nurse Extern - Surgical Progressive Care Unit - PRN night shift

Join McLeod Health as a Nurse Extern in the Surgical Progressive Care Unit. This PRN night shift position offers nursing students the opportunity to gain practical clinical experience in a dynamic acute care setting while completing their nursing education.

Clinical Setting

You will work in the Surgical Progressive Care Unit, providing care to post-operative and surgical patients requiring intermediate-level monitoring and support.

Responsibilities

• Recognize normal signs of growth, development, and aging in the patient population and understand assessment, treatment, and care requirements for the specific age groups served
• Initiate and maintain hygiene and cleanliness for patients, patient environments, and the unit environment
• Understand and recognize appropriate storage and safety protocols for medications, including large volume IVs, alcohol, saline, and prepackaged medication kits
• Conduct hourly rounds using Service Excellence Standards
• Promote and foster an environment of comfort and safety for patients and visitors
• Perform or assist with nutritional and hydration interventions, including feeding, providing fluids, water, and snacks
• Identify and communicate appropriate patient data to members of the interdisciplinary team
• Collect and record patient-related data through direct care tasks
• Demonstrate continued professional growth through goal-setting and participation in evidence-based practice activities
• Utilize appropriate health and safety measures to protect both patients and staff
• Perform general transportation and courier duties as directed

Required Qualifications

• Completed one semester of a nursing program
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Schedule

• PRN (as needed); scheduled night shift
