This is a Nurse Extern position in the Surgery II unit, designed for nursing students who have completed at least one semester of their nursing program. As a Nurse Extern, you will work under supervision to provide direct patient care, develop clinical skills, and gain practical experience in a surgical setting.
Responsibilities
- Recognize normal signs of growth, development, and aging appropriate to the patient population
- Understand assessment, treatment, and care requirements specific to the age groups served
- Initiate and maintain hygiene and cleanliness for patients, patient environments, and the unit
- Understand and recognize appropriate storage and safety protocols for medications, including large volume IVs, alcohol, saline, and prepackaged medication kits
- Conduct hourly rounds using Service Excellence Standards
- Promote and foster an environment of comfort and safety for patients and visitors
- Perform or assist with nutritional and hydration interventions, including feeding, providing fluids, water, or snacks
- Identify and communicate appropriate patient data to members of the interdisciplinary team
- Collect and record patient-related data through direct care tasks
- Demonstrate continued professional growth by setting goals and participating in evidence-based tasks
- Utilize appropriate health and safety practices to protect both patients and staff
- Perform general transportation and courier duties as directed
Required Qualifications
- Completed one semester of a nursing program
Licenses and Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
