Rutherford Regional Health System is seeking a Nurse Extern to gain valuable hands-on clinical experience while supporting safe, high-quality patient care. This role is designed to help you develop your skills, confidence, and clinical judgment as you prepare for your future as a Registered Nurse. You will work collaboratively with the patient care team at a 143-bed acute care facility serving Rutherford County and surrounding communities.
Responsibilities
- Perform direct patient care under the direction, delegation, and supervision of a Registered Nurse
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and mobility
- Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition to the supervising RN
- Document care provided in accordance with hospital standards
- Maintain positive, professional relationships with patients, families, coworkers, and the healthcare team
- Collaborate across disciplines to support patient care needs, including transfers, discharges, referrals, and psychosocial support
- Evaluate patient and family learning needs and provide age-appropriate education as directed
- Advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of patients
- Support performance improvement initiatives and contribute to a culture of safety
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Current student in an accredited School of Nursing (1st year or higher)
- Active CNA certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Schedule
- Self-scheduling PRN with a minimum of 24 hours per month required to remain enrolled in the Nurse Extern program
