NURSE EXTERN - RN STUDENT - DECEMBER 2027 GRADUATES

St. Bernards Healthcare is seeking a Nurse Extern to join our clinical team. This position is designed for RN students within 12 months of graduation who are ready to gain hands-on experience in a hospital setting. Working under the direction of licensed Registered Nurses, you will perform patient care tasks, observe nursing practices and care models, and develop clinical competencies while supporting patient care delivery.

Responsibilities

• Perform tasks and activities related to patient care for an assigned group of patients
• Observe and learn nursing practices, functions, and care models from licensed Registered Nurses
• Provide age-appropriate and culturally sensitive patient care
• Greet and escort patients routinely
• Operate hospital software and equipment according to established protocols
• Assist with vital sign collection
• Complete advanced concepts and training sessions
• Maintain a neat appearance and positive demeanor
• Adhere to hospital goals, policies, and mission

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited RN nursing program
• Within 12 months of graduation (December 2027 graduates)
• Documentation of successful completion of basic nursing fundamentals and skills checklist from your nursing school
• CPR certification
• Ability to work 12-24 hours per week
• Knowledge of patient care technician practices and hospital policies and procedures as acquired through on-the-job training
• Knowledge of basic non-technical skills as acquired through on-the-job training

Physical Requirements

• Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching
• Lifting up to 100 pounds
• Carrying up to 40 pounds
• Pushing and/or pulling up to 350 pounds
• Close eye work
• Ability to hear normal and soft tones
• Ability to distinguish smells and temperatures by touch and proximity
• Exposure to biological hazards requiring use of safety precautions and protective equipment
• Ability to operate or learn to operate multi-line phones, copiers, fax machines, and standard computer programs

Schedule

• PRN (as needed) with varied shifts
• One required shift per week minimum
