The opportunity

Job Description

Join Methodist Healthcare, part of HCA Healthcare, as a Nurse Extern on our Resource Team in a PRN (as-needed) capacity. As a Nurse Extern, you will gain hands-on clinical experience while exploring the full scope of the Registered Nurse role. You will help deliver safe, compassionate care to patients while building the skills and confidence needed to progress through your nursing program and advance into more complex responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide essential patient care including assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), vital sign monitoring, mobility support, and comfort and hygiene measures
  • Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as you gain experience and develop competency
  • Document care accurately and communicate timely updates with the nursing team to ensure seamless, coordinated patient care
  • Help patients and families understand their care plans and provide guidance for health and recovery
  • Maintain clean and safe patient areas by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and organizing the environment
  • Engage in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and work with your supervisor or preceptor to develop your personal career development plan

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school of Nursing
  • Completion of both Nursing Fundamentals courses
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire
