Nurse Extern, PT, Days, Emergency

Texas Health HEB is seeking a Nurse Extern for the Emergency Department. This is a part-time position offering a fast-paced, high-acuity learning environment where nursing students can develop clinical skills under the guidance of experienced nursing staff.

Clinical Setting

Texas Health HEB is a 252-bed, acute-care, full-service hospital located in Bedford, Texas. The Emergency Department is a fast-paced unit specializing in emergency medicine. The hospital is ANCC Magnet Designated, Joint Commission-certified in Chest Pain (PHAC), a Primary Stroke Center, and a Level III Trauma Center.

Schedule

• Part-time position
• Day shift: 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
• 2 shifts per week, 24 hours per week
• Weekend and holiday requirements
• Self-scheduling available to support work/life balance

Responsibilities

• Provide assistance to patients according to the plan of care
• Collect patient data, identify significant findings, and report to the nurse
• Assist with patient admission, transfer, and discharge
• Provide and revise patient activities of daily living based on patient and family preferences
• Perform technical procedures safely and proficiently
• Take action to reduce or eliminate patient risk
• Enter orders into computer or manual systems as applicable
• Document accurately and appropriately
• Adapt care to reflect the patient population in collaboration with the nurse
• Incorporate cultural and religious needs and beliefs into care delivery in collaboration with the nurse
• Maintain a clean and safe patient environment
• Anticipate patient, family, and visitor needs and take appropriate action
• Round as appropriate

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
• Junior or Senior level nursing student who has completed fundamentals, or foreign nurse degree program graduate
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification prior to providing independent patient care, maintained quarterly
