Job Description

Join Mission Hospital's nursing team as a Nurse Extern on our Progressive Unit in a PRN (as-needed) capacity. This role offers hands-on clinical experience as you progress through your nursing program, allowing you to explore the full scope of the Registered Nurse role while delivering safe, compassionate care to patients.

Mission Hospital is a 853-bed regional tertiary and quaternary care center in Asheville, North Carolina, serving as the region's only trauma center, comprehensive stroke center, and home to the only children's hospital in Western North Carolina. The hospital holds Magnet designation for nursing excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Provide essential patient care including assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), vital sign monitoring, mobility support, and comfort and hygiene measures
  • Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as you gain experience and competency
  • Document care accurately and communicate timely updates with the nursing team to ensure seamless, coordinated patient care
  • Help patients and families understand their care plans and provide guidance for health and recovery
  • Maintain clean, safe patient areas by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and organizing the environment
  • Engage in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and work with your supervisor or preceptor to develop your personal career development plan

Required Qualifications

  • Current North Carolina CNA registry
  • Completion of at least 1 year of nursing school or as mandated by state of practice

  • One or more years of experience in an acute care setting
