This is a PRN (as-needed) Nurse Extern position in Medical Surgical nursing at McLeod Health. You will work in a dynamic hospital environment providing direct patient care and support to the nursing team while gaining practical clinical experience.
Responsibilities
- Recognize normal signs of growth, development, and aging in the patient population and understand assessment, treatment, and care requirements for specific age groups
- Initiate and maintain hygiene and cleanliness for patients, patient environments, and unit environments
- Understand and recognize appropriate storage and safety of medications, including large volume IVs, alcohol, saline, and prepackaged medication kits
- Conduct hourly rounds using Service Excellence Standards
- Promote and foster an environment of comfort and safety for patients and visitors
- Perform or assist with nutritional and hydration interventions, including feeding, providing fluids, water, or snacks
- Identify and communicate appropriate patient data to members of the interdisciplinary team
- Collect and record patient-related data through direct care tasks
- Demonstrate continued professional growth through goal-setting and participation in evidence-based tasks
- Utilize appropriate health and safety practices to protect both patients and staff
- Perform general transportation and courier duties as directed
Required Qualifications
- Completed one semester of a nursing program
Licenses and Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Occupational Risk Assessment membership
